Average taxpayer would save $83 under tax cut
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The average Wisconsin taxpayer would save $83 under Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed income tax cut.
That is according to a new analysis released Monday by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
Walker is proposing lowering tax rates for the lowest three brackets starting this tax year.
The analysis shows those who earn more than $100,000 would receive more than 49 percent of the total tax cut Walker is proposing. Those with lesser incomes would see a larger percentage cut, but because they earn less the dollar amount of the reduction would be less than the higher earners.
The largest percentage increase would be those who earn between $25,000 and $30,000. For them, the cut would be 3.3 percent.
The $343 million tax cut is the centerpiece of Walker’s two-year budget.

analertcitizen, you said "He purposely never mentioned anything about unions while campaigning and within one month threw public workers under the bus." That is an incorrect statement,
"in a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article that ran on October 29, 2010, just three days before the election, Richard Abelson, head of the local AFSCME chapter, said, "The premise is still that they want to bypass collective bargaining and adopt wages and working conditions through the budget process."
If no one knew, why were the union leaders talking about it?

Oh and by the way 916- I am not a union person but if I were I would have been fighting mad at the way he went about denigrating anyone
(with the exception of police and fire fighter unions) who belonged to a union. We were all boondoggled. He purposely never mentioned anything about unions while campaigning and within one month threw public workers under the bus. You bet I would have marched.

@916,jcommon,and RAF- I have no problem with fees rising but Walker is trying to pass off a " tax cut" while we'll actually be paying more per year next year with the rising fees. The way I look at it is; keep taxes and fees where they were and quit the dramatics.

I would greatly prefer to see my $6.92 monthly tax cut go to restore the funding for public education that Walker slashed last year.

fear...."less than 7 dollars a month!WOW and all this to drag education down in Wisconsin? All this to keep thousands of poor families without medical coverage? Hm is 7 dollars worth this ridiculous partisan shell game?"

The seven dollars a month is meaningless. I personally think Walker should have reinvested that money in our infrastructure. What is meaningful, is that we avoided another billion dollar tax increase like the last one that outgoing democratic administration left us with. Considering the tax rates that Wisconsinites are faced with, this should definitely be welcomed by all of us. As far as your comment regarding "thousands of poor people being left w/o medical coverage", I do believe that Walker announced that Medicare would be expanded to cover more families than have ever been covered by our state's system in the past. While it would certainly would be nice to give everyone everything for "free", that's just not a practical perspective.......

anal.....You seriously have a problem with those fees? We need to invest in our infrastructure. The roads in this state have been an absolute mess for years. Should we just continue to simply let them fall apart?
As far as your comment, "all of the anger that people directed toward one another over issues in the past two years" is concerned--do you hold the unions responsible for any of that "anger"? Probably not, right??

Don't be silly jcommon.....Those nine posters won't be returning a dime of that money. They are the same people who have no problem demanding that state residents be taxed in order to provide funding for programs that they believe in and then have mental breakdowns when our government spends money on programs the majority of the taxpayers want........

Thanks Gov Walker, it is a start.
BTW, I am with RAF. You people complaining can start by giving your 83 dollars right back, nothing is stopping you from doing it. As of this post, there should be 9 posters giving their money back.

If those complaining about this small amount that people get to keep of their own money had any bit of conviction they would of course make sure they still paid the old rate and might even send in more. Since I have yet to meet a person complaining about too low of taxes ever step up to the plate and do what they claim want others to do, pay more, I suspect none of these previous posters will have any conviction either.

Analysts are saying a $2.4 billion deficit in 2014 and $2.6 billion deficit in 2015. Hmmm....I need RAFs spin to turn this into a surplus even as Walker goes for a few hundred billion in new bonding for transportation. In exchange, we gut education for future non-wealthy generations.

Based on the state transportation proposals on gas taxes and fees that are being submitted, here is what Scotty is forgetting to tell us about our finances" -
The typical vehicle owner would pay an extra $120 a year to drive in Wisconsin, under a package of recommendations proposed Wednesday by a state transportation commission..."

Sounds to me like we're about to lose money with this new deal.

This is disgraceful. All of the hours and money spent, all of the anger that people directed toward one another over issues in the past two years, all of the cutting of services in cities all over the state- ALL for $83 per year. Simply disgusting.
