JANESVILLE – Parents looking for something for the kids to do today with schools closed can bring them to the Janesville Performing Arts Center.

SpotLight on Kids is offering a free show at 1 p.m. today.

The youth theater group had planned on busloads of schoolchildren to see its performance of “School House Rock,” but with Janesville schools canceled, there’s no audience, according to an email from the group.

The show, however, will go on.

Analert....it's called an opinion. Many people didn't think school should have been canceled and to encourage people to go out on the roads was not, IMO, a good idea.

I would have liked to gone to Jpac for the program, if I had been able to get out, but alas the country road I live on it was just too slippery yet. I am glad that they wer able to offer this performance, and I hope that many in town kids were able to take advantage of their generosity.

SpotLight on Kids could have just canceled. Instead, they offered a free performance to the community on a day when kids have lots of free time, with the added bonus that the many child performers got another chance to perform. Would anyone care to comment about that? --Gazette reporter Frank Schultz

And donnaw- by 12:30 today I would expect the roads to be drivable and safer- unlike this early morning. So so bitter about something, aren't you?

donnaw, the district largely bases closings on whether rural student bus routes can run. But city students should be able to get around.
.
neverforget, somebody is taking care of your kids, right, even if it isn't you? This message is for them, so they don't get wigged out.

So lets get this straight. The conditions outside are too dangerous for kids to go to school but they can go out for a show? Wow, what rationalizations!

Neverforget -- Chill out! There are probably some parents who were able to take today off to stay home with the kids. I wish I didn't have a long meeting today....or I would bail on work and go to this show.

just because our kids don't have school does not mean we don't have to work. Get real.
