JANESVILLE--A Madison real estate development company with significant interests in Janesville has bought a vacant building and plans to lease it as a Quaker Steak & Lube franchise, a popular restaurant chain with more than 45 stores in the country.

Sara Investment Real Estate bought the former Damon’s Grill at 3111 Wellington Place on Friday from an Ohio-company, said Mandy Witt, a broker with Coldwell Banker Commercial/ McGuire Mears & Associates who was involved in the sale.

Traci Dalsin, executive vice president of Sara, said her company will lease the property to Sting Ray Hospitality Group, which currently operates Quaker Steak & Lube franchises in Middleton, Madison and New Berlin.

bibledude, will it be near your church.

By the way, did you see MJ do that commercial for belief in front of the City Council a month or so ago?

I tried White Castle for the first time while in Kenosha last week, and I thought the burgers were terrible. Tried a Long John Silvers down in Iowa and did not care for the batter they use, tasted like a stick of butter. A few years ago I went to the QS&L in Middleton for the first time and we had the all you can eat fish and shrimp. The fish was so good that we almost missed the basketball game. I do hope that ours will be as good as Middletons. I have learned that with franchises, the food does not always taste as good from store to store. The Golden Corral in Plover doesn't even come close to the one we ate at in Indianna. The Hometown Buffet we had was not nearly as good as the one we tried in Rockford years ago, and I'll trade all the fast food burger joints in this town for a bar burger anyday.

YAY!!! Love Quaker Steak! It's about time we get a decent restaurant in jvl! And UncleJesse...there's a Long John Silvers in Beloit. It's near Shopko and it's in with KFC. But since we live in WI, I can't name one place that doesn't have fish on Fridays.

Great news. The one in Madison is always crowded and their cruise nights are always a big hit. Many from Janesville drive all the way up there. Being right off the interstate will be a huge plus. I understand what some are saying about wishing for something different, but during these times, it's not always about what we personally want. Filling an empty building is a positive. Not to mention those "something different" restaurants have failed in the past here because of the customer mentality that exists locally. Not by all, but by the majority. People simply don't spend money on place's different like some of us do unfortuntatley.

Lierre...check out Steve and Holly's down on Franklin St for a good steak. It's the old Cherry's. The best local steak I've had yet. The service is great and friendly and the food is phenomenal. I ate there for the first time a couple weeks ago and will def be going back.

Considering how busy Texas Roadhouse always is, I think this will work really well. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Texas Roadhouse and the wait was an hour. We decided to wait while driving in the car to Madison to go to Outback Steakhouse instead. I'd much rather have more selection in Janesville and frequent their restaurants rather than drive to Madison, but Janesville just doesn't have the selection.

Any new business is good business. Everyone saying "I want something different", go get a business loan and take it upon yourself to make something different. I could be wrong but, these franchises started as a small business that grew because people liked them. Lets just be happy that another business is coming to Janesville instead of leaving.

kawisixer01, you make a valid point nothing unique about it, a seafood or mongolian grill idea would rock.

kawisixer01, they seem to do well on the west side of Madison where there are equal or more "deep fried/burgers/beer" establishments. The way Janesville people like to eat out (see restaurant parking lots), I'm betting Quaker will do well.
.
BTW.... If you like sea food in the way of Red Lobster, rumor has it that they are planning to build in the Menard's development across from Arbys. :)

Blah another deep fried and beer joint. When I saw workers around there last week working on the building I was really hoping they'd bring something unique and different, not another one of 20 places already serving chicken wings, burgers, and beer. A decent sea food place or something unique like an Americanized Mongolian grill (Fire and Ice perhaps?) Yes Quaker has a neat atmosphere, but let's be honest, the deep fried/burgers/beer market is fully saturated in Janesville. Especially on the North side of town.

Quaker Steak and Lube started in Pennsylvania, hence the Quaker part and the original is an old service station, therefore the lube part.

Bibledude, apparently you have never been to a Quaker Steak and Lube to understand the name.

Now let's hope that the City doesn't mess with them again, like they did when they wanted to purchase land and build next to Menard's.

Any business opening is good news around here. I've never eaten at a Quaker Steak & Lube but I hear it's good. I'd love to see a bakery/coffee shop/sandwich place such as Panera Bread or Atlanta Bread Company come to Janesville. That's something that seems to be lacking around here.

More businesses = more jobs. Previously empty building becomes productive and generates tax income for the area. I fail to see this as a bad thing.

Plus, I know at the Middleton location, they do "Bike Night" on Tuesdays during the summer months. I think that will also draw in quite a bit of business if they do that here in Janesville.

Quaker Steak and Lube will be a good asset to Janesville, as they have excellent food and service and they support local non profit organizations with their Make a Difference Mondays.

This is GREAT news! I do business at small, local businesses as well as franchise businesses in JVL so the fact that it is another franchise with a good reputation for great food moving into a prime location is wonderful for JVL and will create some new jobs for area residents. Plus, if you look at that area off of the interstate at 14/Deerfield there are no other restaurants like Quaker Steak over there unless you count Fuddruckers (I have no idea how they stay in business or why they are even busy. IMO WORST restaurant in JVL.)

Everyone should be positive. It's sad to see a high profile piece of real estate empty. Might mean another step out of the hole for Janesville!

I am waiting for all the franchise haters that exist in this town, however let me point out that having franchises along the I system is a much better idea for drawing travelers. I am not aware of the business structure of Quaker Steak & Lube but it could include individual franchise owners that could be local, something to consider. I get tired of the anti-chain attitude around here when I see a new place open downtown with the best pizza this city has ever had and very few supporting it, because "it is too expensive" quality costs money folks, can't have it both ways.

Sigma- Details are in the first paragraph of the story. "...Quaker Steak & Lube franchise, a popular restaurant chain with more than 45 stores in the country."
Maybe if you learned to read instead of just spouting criticism all the time...

Quaker Steak & Lube will be a great addition to that area. Close to the I system and on the #14 bypass. I travel to New Berlin to meet friends at their Steak & Lube and have always enjoyed the meal. It will be much better that the Damons that was there. Can't wait!!
