UPDATE: Highway 81 reopens after car crash
NEWARK TOWNSHIP—All lanes of Highway 81 that were closed for about 3.5 hours, between County K and Merlet Road near Beloit, have reopened after a late Saturday afternoon one-vehicle crash in Newark Township.
Rock County Sheriff’s Office deputies had requested a REACT helicopter from Rockford to fly a person injured in the single-vehicle crash for medical treatment in Illinois, but the helicopter was not able to fly due to poor weather conditions, according to scanner chatter.
Deputies responded at 5:04 p.m. to the crash scene, 11418 W. Highway 81 in Newark Township, where a car hit a tree, said a Rock County Communications lead dispatcher.
At the time of the crash Rock County roads were icy, according to local officials.
