Government watchdog group loses half its funding

MADISON — A high-profile government watchdog group that maintains a database of all political donations made in Wisconsin has lost half of its funding and faces an uncertain future.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign alerted its supporters on Tuesday that the Joyce Foundation decided to no longer give the group money. Democracy Campaign director Mike McCabe says of the group's $430,000 annual budget, $232,500 of it came from the Joyce Foundation.

McCabe says the Joyce Foundation gave no explanation for the decision to stop funding the group after it had for 16 years. A spokesman for the Chicago-based philanthropic group did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

McCabe says the Democracy Campaign does not have an immediate cash-flow problem, but it may have to look at making cuts in coming months.

Nice try jansvillian, I never stated this administration did a great job running that office. In fact in previous comments about this subject I stated delinquency at this level is near criminal and should be punished.

That doesn't meet the comment level from a local left fringe poster that claims the money was stolen. As is typical of you getting part of the story, then running off at the keyboard, is a habit.

RetiredAirForce, it was clearly a lapse in the transition to the WEDC from the Department of Commerce in tracking pre-existing loans, so this is absolutely attributable to Walker. The point is that it is an agency that has as a primary responsibility DISTRIBUTING MONEY in grants and loans, and this primary duty of theirs was somehow lost in the shuffle because, you know, well, they created and changed and tweaked half of the state in secret without hearings or public input or stakeholder discussions. They just think they're that awesome they don't need to answer to mere citizens.
.
It isn't about bad loans, it's about COLLECTING LOANS that were already on the flipping books. Something an economic development agency, you would think, would consider a primary activity and therefore deserving of some attention.

ford you might want to look more into the facts behind your claim. The money missing is from actions that happened under which govenor?

No crruption at WEDC? As I said, if your values are the same as Walker's you are fine with a few million here and a few million there missing to never be recovered. Where did it go? I didn't get any of it - only provided some of the money to be stolen.

wislady...and your point is that 42nd is better than 48th where we were? Are we the only state that was in the union during the Republic Party inspired recession? Your cheer is:
Upper Bottom 20%!
Upper Bottom 20%!
Upper Bottom 20%!

You really should read more than the AP headline, from your link.

"Wisconsin's additional 35,381 private-sector jobs amounts to a 1.5% increase."

"Broken out by manufacturing jobs, Wisconsin fares better. It ranks 20th in terms of private-sector job creation in the manufacturing sector, with an increase of 11,788 new production jobs, or 2.6%. The Badger State, however, trails several other Midwestern manufacturing states: Michigan (5.2% or 26,774); Indiana (4.3% or 20,298); and Ohio (3.9% or 24,648)."

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no corruption at WEDC. Why don't you ask Barca, he sits on the board.

"twist our laws to stay in power and rape our state"
.
The question is...is this a "legitimate rape"? Maybe we should ask the "binders full of women"?

At the next election, Walker can account for this along with the corruption at his WEDC:

I think the "watchdogs" would have plenty of work to do in tracking the possible illegal donations to the democratic party, including the presidential campaign.

The Joyce Foundation must have found another group to provide cover for the progressives in WI. Joyce Found is now going all in to take our firearms. http://www.joycefdn.org/5-questions-for-...

916wi - even though the Republic party Gerrymandered the state to have total control of the electoral process for the next 10 years or so, I will keep trying. Walker will get his chance again in a couple of years and can explain himself over his lies and hatred of the middle class workers in this state. We will see where that leads. One thing for sure, however, RWNJs will never own me.

"And if I don't then it is OK for them to break and twist our laws to stay in power and rape our state?"
-------
Where did I say that? You talk as though the WI Democracy Campaign was a political party elected by the residents of the state. If you don't like the direction our state is going along with the legislation that they are promoting, simply recall the Governor or replace the majority of the legislative branch with one that shares your perspective.......Oh--I forgot--you did try that........and you failed miserably:)

So you suggest that I pay more money to keep your political pals from breaking the law. And if I don't then it is OK for them to break and twist our laws to stay in power and rape our state? Got it....RWNJs

Well Fordfan...if you're that concerned, why don't you send them a check to assist them in keeping the doors open? Or are you one of the liberals who has no problem spending anyone else's money but your own?
