Milton, Beloit police reporting copper thefts from vacant homes
MILTON—Authorities are investigating a pair of burglaries that have left two homes in Milton stripped of copper.
According to Milton Police Department reports, two vacant homes in Milton—one in the 900 block of
Milton Drive and one at an undisclosed location on West Elizabeth Street—were burglarized with copper stolen from inside. Police believe the burglaries happened sometime between Jan. 5 and Jan. 6.
According to an online advisory by the Beloit Police Department on Thursday, police are investigating a number of copper thefts on Beloit’s west side. Police there say they are finding vacant homes for sale with signs of forced entry. The homes have had copper pipe cut out from inside and stolen, police said.
Milton police are urging owners of vacant homes, realtors and neighbors who live near vacant homes to be vigilant in securing vacant properties. Neighbors should report any suspicious behavior at vacant properties, police said.
Police are offering a cash reward for anyone with information on the burglaries that leads to an arrest.
