MADISON — Hundreds of people are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day at a Capitol celebration featuring music, speeches and prayers.

Gov. Scott Walker, Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and University of Wisconsin President Kevin Reilly were among those who attended the state’s 33rd annual tribe and ceremony on Monday honoring King.

Journalist and author John W. Fountain gave the keynote address. Howard Fuller, the former superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools received the MLK 2013 Heritage Award. Father James Groppi, an activist who died in 1985, also received the award which was presented to his widow.

The event featured performances from Milwaukee’s Latino Arts Strings program, Ho-Chunk Native American Drum and Dance Ensemble, Malcolm Williams and the Voices of Great Faith and Madison Bagpipers.

The event was to honor MLK, which Walker has done without using cheap political digs. Shame on you if you think her remarks belonged at the occasion. It was not a union rally, it was a memorial.

MLK was not a saint. How would you like it if Walker talked about the "dark side" of MLK's life? No one would like that, and it would have been just as inappropriate as what Rozga said.

If we are not to honor King's own principles while honoring the man, our words are empty. Kudos to Dr. Rozga for speaking truth to power, sitting right behind her and pretending to care. If he cared, he would not be making sure that worker and ballot rights are being taken away. What shame for Wisconsin that we elected this homunculus.

Best part was the standing ovation the people gave for the Margaret Rozga speech when she put down Scott Walker and HIS policies! Thank you Margaret Rozga for making the Gov. look so FOOLISH - Once again!

King, jr said "I have a dream". His niece now says Obama has turned it into a nightmare. Instead of empowering the black race, he has enslaved them in welfare and poverty and the liberals have basically removed the father from the picture for the last several decades.

That is not an accurate account of the event, I watched it myself, nice try.

If you notice the comment on your link (left Madison newsite), the SHAME should be directed to Margaret Rozga.

"Unfortunately, this woman spoiled a wonderful celebration in honor of Dr. King by bringing politics into an otherwise beautiful ceremony. It wasn't the time or place to make these accusations."

Here you go wislady, a recording og it: http://host.madison.com/news/local/govt-...

"Accepting the MLK 2013 Heritage Award on behalf of her late husband, Father James Groppi, Dr. Margaret Rozga uses part of her speech at Wisconsin's Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute and Ceremony on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, to seemingly criticize Gov. Scott Walker on voting rights, union rights and natural resources. Walker is sitting in the front row behind Rozga."

Too bad this event was not put into the news earlier, so that others could have seen it as it was occurring with the Live Feed.
