Janesville and Madison police seek help finding homeless man
JANESVILLE—The Janesville and Madison police Friday were seeking the public’s help in locating Ryhene Jamel Thomas, 25.
Thomas is homeless and has stayed at the GIFTS homeless shelter in Janesville but more recently was staying at a homeless shelter in Madison, according to a news release from Janesville police. He has not had contact with relatives, which is out of the ordinary for him, according to the news release.
Thomas goes by the name of “Jamel.” He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 170 pounds with shoulder-length braids and numerous tattoos including a tear drop below his right eye. He was last seen at noon Dec. 22 at a gas station at Five Points in Janesville. He left after saying he was going to Madison. He was wearing baggy dark jeans, and he usually carries a black backpack, according to the news release.
Anyone with information on Thomas’ whereabouts is asked to contact Janesville police at 608-757-2244.

I wish him well.
And judging from the description, he doesn't seem to be a current house guest of mine.

tarben...
WE shouldn't have to do research to find out what a person looks like. IT should have been in THIS article.
As far as jail. MAybe he has maybe he hasn't. This wasn't my thought. My thought was a filled in tatoo means they got revenge for the person they lost. So that is what I meant by yikes.

@frogger...Never once did I think your tear drop comment had to do with the color of this persons skin. After reading your past comments, you will never convince me that you were not insinuating this MISSING person had spent time in jail/prison.Take a look in the mirror at yourself and then maybe you will realize looks aren't everything.

it is possible that the only reason it did not say race is because the description is also located in an article with a picture so race would have not been needed, click on the link below. just a thought!

Hey Mr. Angus and Mr. Peck...
Why don't you read today's editorial...and then look in the mirror...and then honestly ask yourselves how this comment section reflects on you and the Gazette.

I am concerned but ,I bet he is safe and sound with someone and doesn't give a rat's patoot about the concerns. I have seen this dude at the five points before while gassing up or buying beer. He was always with a posse, I think he really gives a crapp ! He is street smart that's how they survive. Does anyone think he could be an addict ? they do disappear for periods at a time, Just my humble opinion.

frusion- I never said a teardrop had to do with the color of a person. If it is filled in is sometimes means the person got revenge.

First, before a comment on tattoos, I really hope this man is found safe. This is where those electronic billboards serve a great purpose. Get this man's picture and name displayed and hopefully someone has seen him.
.
A teardrop tattoo has nothing to do with the color of a person.
.
Meaning
In the United States, it can mean the wearer has killed someone.[3] The number of teardrops may indicate the number of years spent in prison, or the number of times the wearer was raped.[1] It may also indicate time spent in prison or the loss of a loved one or fellow gang member.[1]
In at least one prison (Oaxaca State), it indicates that the wearer was raped in prison.[4]
It is sometimes worn by the female companions of prisoners in solidarity with their loved ones.[5] Though typically a practice among Hispanic women, English singer Amy Winehouse got a teardrop tattoo when her husband went to prison.

callit- why would it be racist to think becuse of his name he may be black? I was thinking he may have been a black man because this name would be a common name for a black man. Sure it could be white mans name. I don't know why they wouldn't put black man in the article. Maybe they don't because of comments by people who think it is racist to say "black man". That is just stupid. Do you want to find the guy or worry what the public would say if we used the term "black man"

I, for one, was not passing judgement. If you are doing a public service announcement I would think a picture or the person in questions their race would be a helpful tool in identifying them.
I think it is more racist to "suggest" race by the style of the person's hair or name.

12345678, calm down. If you want an eyeful go to some other News Web blogs that make this look like Sesame Street then you will have something to compare to. I'm sure everyone wants this man to be found. You know, there is a point where people like you make it so you can't talk about anything or anyone without offending someone.
