Sunday's weather likely to make travel treacherous
JANESVILLE The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to avoid traveling Sunday because of a storm that’s expected to start late Sunday morning, according to a news release.
The National Weather Service in Sullivan has issued a winter weather advisory from noon to midnight Sunday.
A combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to begin late Sunday morning as part of winter storm Luna.
The snow-sleet-ice mix is expected to last through the evening. Ice accumulations of up to 0.20 inches are expected, as is a snow and sleet mix of up to 1 inch.
The weather will translate to slippery roads and limited visibility, the weather service said.
Officials at the sheriff’s office anticipate “potentially dangerous road conditions,” the news release said.
If you must travel, remember to reduce speed, wear a seatbelt, keep your cell phone charged and with you, and pack emergency supplies, the news release said.
Road conditions can be monitored at www.511wi.gov or by dialing 511 on your telephone.

So, are the roads (as the headline says) "treacherous"?
Or, did a few stupid drivers going too fast with the wrong tires on their car just slide off as usual?

Considering there were several runoffs between Janesville and Whitewater when I was driving home, I wouldn't say it was hype. The roads were slick.

Oh my gosh! I just saw a few flakes falling!
Hurry up and close the roads and cancel all activities in Southern Wisconsin!
(It's all hype)

I have a 4 wheel drive.. if it is on, I don't go much more than 40 tops, which is what the manufacturer recommends. Also, unlike many other 4 wheel owners, I'm aware that 4 wheel drive has no effect on ice, and nothing to do with braking.. I have to work in Whitewater tonight...I intend to get home safely, so if you are out on the road, back off or go around.

I am with you stormchaser.....I am one of the slowpokes who drive with common sense during bad weather. I drive every day to fort, and if I see a line of crazies behind me by milton, I pull over and let them go by, then continue on my putt-putt way. Get there safe every time.

Some of us don't have the luxury of staying home when we are scheduled to work. Wish they'd make some sort of law to protect us if we get injured or have accidents because we have no choice but to go out in this crap. On the other hand I have never had an accident in the 40 years I've been driving. Yes, I'm the slow poke that's ticks everyone behind me off, but at least I'm not sliding into the ditch!

I have drove trough over a foot of snow. The light dusting we had earlier this week was the slickist I was on in years because of the cold that came before it. Point is drive safe.

I drove to work on Friday AM in the light snow/sleet and ended up ruining my front tire on a curb. Was coming off Hwy 14 in Oregon and going around the round a bout there at 20mph and my car slid rather than turned. Hit the curb with my aluminum wheel and literally peeled off part of the outer diameter of the rim so that about a foot of the outer rim was just hanging there like c curly fry. Never in a thousand years figured that something like that could happen to a metal rim! Tire still holding air though.

Please stay home...that way you will not slide into me when I make a short trip to the C-store for the Sunday papers.
I have Snow / Ice rated tires on my SUV so I'll be OK going 14 blocks round trip.
Your summer "high performance" tires will put you out of action real quick, and even "all-season" are commonly refered to as "no-season" by tire stores.
Of course, this is probably just another false alarm.

just stay home, get a pot of chilli simmering and watch something on your big ol T.V., if you go out your gonna get in a fender bender then you have to spend the rest of the day takin care of the damage and then every body gets in a sour mood, so just stay home and eat chilli while watchin a movie.
