Mining bill vote scheduled
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Committees in both the state Senate and Assembly plan to meet simultaneously Feb. 6 to vote on sending a mining bill out for debate.
The committee vote would come two weeks after a 12-hour public hearing on the measure that would ease environmental protections to make it easier for an iron ore mine to open near Lake Superior.
Republicans who control the Legislature have said they want to pass the bill quickly to spur job creation, and the scheduling of the committee executive sessions is a sign of that urgency.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said Monday he hopes to have the full Senate vote on the bill around March 5.
Democrats have proposed their own measure, which preserves environmental protections.

and this new bill would siphon off tax revenue to go to Walkers "new" dept. The same dept that "lost" 50 million in this state. But that's probably ok with her.

Even if this is past, the tribes in the area will have to sign off and the Army Corp of Engineers have to approve. It will still take years and be tied up in court. Wislady, how about commenting on the article instead of ranting about something not even mentioned.

We should get the same promises that Obama gave for Solyndra, solar panels, auto plants, and electric cars.
Follow the link to see where much of the stimulus money has gone.
Number 6 is particularly egregious, but someone the media has ignored it.
"Using $10 million in stimulus funding, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) plans to set up four new teams to fight Mexican gunrunners"
"only eight of 5,106 Mexican crime guns were traced"

How about the coal mine in Tx closing because of EPA standards (loss of 3,900 jobs), and paving the way for a wind farm on that location?

I suggest we all read the small print and hold the Legislators' feet to the fire. Include requirements such as:
1) Ensure all fees are paid for by the mining company, NOT {we need italics] subsidized by the tax payers.
2.) Mining company deposit, up front, a sizable chunk of money (kept in discreet, untouchable, interest-earning account) to ensure the state has reclamation funds as mined areas need restoration.
. . .
Without assurances such as these, in my opinion, there should be no bill passed into law.

Why dig so fast? So an out of state company can take all the profits and run! I'm all for responsible mining but this smells of political pay back. Let's take 3 to 6 months and make sure that beautiful part of this great state isn't ruined for ever!! Have you ever been there? We need to be POSITIVE this pristine land stays that way!
