Janesville Jets, YMCA create partnership
JANESVILLE--Were it not for the Janesville Jets attire, it might have been difficult to single out the new faces working out at the YMCA of Northern Rock County.
But there they were, members of the local North American Hockey League team, getting cardio work on stationary bikes, lifting free weights and pushing through core-strengthening exercises on floor mats.
“Everyone kind of does whatever they need to do (to stay fit). We had a team basketball game yesterday,” said Jason Ford, 18, of Waunakee, who plays center for the Jets.
Members of the team began exercising at the facility last month after the two organizations created a partnership they believe benefits not themselves but the community.

I can respect your stance, saxcat70.
.
However, with knowing several of the employees/volunteers at the Janesville YMCA and the amount of work that goes into that organization, I can assure you that there is no government "teat" in the picture.
.
There are some NPOs in the area that give the impression that all NPOs are suckling. That shouldn't define all NPOs, especially not our community's YMCA. .
.
Also, I was able to say "teat" one more time...well two more times now.

I will not argue with your stance on the subject kenny. And I understand that they do not "get a check" from the government. My stance, or opinion, would be that any organization that gets preferential tax treatment is "government funded". I believe most "non-profits" ,churches, charities, .....ymca's?... establish themselves as NPO's to avoid taxes of some type. All the while making BBBBBillions of dollars.

Unfortunately, so many people nowadays misconstrue "opinions" and "facts" as one and the same. NPO does not equate to an organization being government funded. That isn't my opinion...that is actually a fact.

And this is "news"? Sounds more like an ad for the hockey team and the YMCA. What exactly is the "news" value of this article?

I'm not sure how the Jets will ever be able to go on living after losing out on two of their biggest supporters...but somehow I am sure they will manage. The relationship actually makes more sense than their previous agreement with the JAC. Better facilities, less ornery people, and more families to market to. Essentially a no-brainer for the Jets.
.
FYI the Janesville YMCA is not government funded. It is self sustaining NPO that has been serving Janesville since 1858. You just wanted to say, "teat," didn't you?

It's my understanding....that the Jets are no longer associated with the Janesville Athletic club (a Platinum level sponsor)because the Jets no longer wanted to honor the previously arranged discounts offered to Club members. In other words, the folks who are actually paying for the sponsorship get nothing in return.
Ice arena, YMCA....Milk dripping off their chins from sucking on the government teat. I've seen my last game.

I'll be sure to read "Frisday's" paper. Hopefully someone edits that version. Nice to hear about the Jets & Y though - should be a good partnership.
