Lawmakers propose making no-call list permanent
MADISON—Registration on Wisconsin’s no-call list designed to block telemarketers would not need to be renewed every two years as proposed under a bill Republican lawmakers are preparing to introduce.
The bill being circulated for co-sponsorship would make registration of a phone number on the state’s no-call list permanent, instead of requiring it to be renewed every two years. Registration on the federal list is permanent and more than a dozen states have permanent enrollment.
The proposal from Republican Rep. Andre Jacques would also add robocalls to those not allowed for people on the registry. However, political calls would still be allowed. Calls from nonprofits and those made with a person’s permission or at their request are also allowed.

That'd be great! But I wish these telemarketers would also try follow the regulation. I have been on the DNC list for two years now but I'm still getting unsolicited calls. Just yesterday, I reported yet again another telemarketer to http://www.callercenter.com for phone call harassment. The caller wouldn't stop trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner, which I definitely don't need.

janesvillecomments: Love your suggestion of making the political parties pay for wasting my time. Only change I would make is make it $1.50 evenings and Saturdays and $2.00 on Sunday. Time and one half and double time for wasting my time after a 8 hour day or 40 hour week. That and add a charge per minute besides the per call charge. Think minimum wage would be in the ball park of 15 cents a minute times the overtime rates.

Political robo-calls should be blocked as well. If Bill "define the meaning of the word zipper" Clinton or Pat "I thought you wuz dead" Boone want to sit at a telephone and dial us up one at a time, I'll be glad to scream "Take me off your ****ing call list!" into their ears.
They can call it the Sensible Political Phone Call Act of 2013, or the Fair and Balanced Political Phone Call Act or just refer to it as the STFU1 bill.
An alternative law could require the political entity calling has to pre-pay $1 to the billing account of the number being called before they can dial the number. That would provide accountability and usefully direct some money to Wisconsin residents.

It doesn't matter - they call anyway. Without enforcement and serious consequences, any law is meaningless.

I agree that the Wisconsin no-call list should only require one-time registration of a phone number. I also think it should ban political, nonprofit, and basically any group that does mass calls. I don't give money over the phone no matter how guilty the caller tries to make me feel. I donate to local causes only and never over the phone because I can't tell if it's a scam or the real thing. Republicans and Democrats both hate getting these annoying calls so there should be zero no votes.

Will Democrats acknowledge that even Republicans are trying to rein in businesses on this front?

Seems no-call lists don't matter anymore by all the crap I've been getting on my phone.

100% agree here. So we can cure spam from email, rid our phones of telemarketers, how do we get the post office to stop dumping garbage in our mailboxes?

Remove the exemption for political calls and you will have my full support!
