Official: Toddler was at babysitter's home during fatal dog attack
A 14-month-old boy was at his babysitter's house in the town of Walworth on Wednesday afternoon when the two of them were attacked by a pair of dogs, a sheriff's office official says.
The boy died at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee hours after the attack, authorities said.
Susan Iwicki, 30, was babysitting the child at her home when her two pit bulls attacked them around 12:45 p.m., Walworth County Sheriff's Office Captain Dana Nigbor said.
Iwicki was taken to Mercy-Walworth Hospital in Lake Geneva, Nigbor said, but there was no update on her condition Thursday morning.
Nigbor said the Sheriff's Office is still conducting a death investigation today at Iwicki's home, N2037 North Lakeshore Drive, Walworth.
There are no criminal charges in the case so far, Nigbor said. "Unless something drastically changes," she said, the investigation likely will not be a criminal one.
An autopsy for the child is scheduled for Thursday, Nigbor said.
