JANESVILLE The National Weather Service in Sullivan is predicting potentially hazardous weather conditions over the next three days.

Freezing rain is expected to start early Saturday and then change over to rain. Rain is expected off and on through Sunday morning, according to the NWS.

The rain and resulting snowmelt will likely cause rivers and streams to rise quickly.

In addition, warmer air flowing over the snow might cause dense fog into Sunday morning, the weather service said.

The warning effects Rock, Walworth, Green, Jefferson, Dane, Racine, Kenosha, Lafayette, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Dodge, Columbia, Sauk, Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties.

Years ago there were fewer commuters, cars weren't built with plastic and fiberglass and we had studded tires. Today I drive a plastic toy and appreciate knowing when I have to wake up an hour earlier so I can take my "winter" route to work, My winter route involves avoiding all major hills.

Hint: I agree, unfortunately when we were kids our society was not the "sue happy" community it is today. School districts, both city and rural, get caught between a rock and a hard place. They get a mass of people calling & complaining when they do call a snow day. They get the same thing when they don't. If people went about their business (more slowly in the winter) like they did when we were kids and accepted the fact that they are CHOOSING to live in any area of the country where it snows, then you wouldn't see as much of a big deal being made about a typical 5-6 inch snowfall.

Dwight...it just gets my shorts in a bundle that these weather people get paid for being wrong ninety percent of the time. The ten percent of the time that they call it right, we're suppose to get down on our knees and sing praises ?Ugh ! If they got paid for being right they would be on welfare.

I agree jvlhomeowner. I posted something like this the other day. When I was a kid a 5 inch snowfall was just another day. Buses made it just fine. Now it is the end of life as we know it when a 3 to 6 inch snowfall comes. These weren't even advisories when I was a kid now they are winter storm warnings. Some schools call off before the snow even begins.

I think, (and agree) with what some of the posters are saying- Lately the Weather Service has become too "over cautious" in their alerts. Time will come when the majority will ignore them, and then something really hazardous will happen....
A snowfall of 1-3 inches triggers a "winter weather advisory"...when I was a kid that was called "light snow". Today's forecast is not hazardous - it is just normal weather for this time of year.

"You don't need a weather man to tell witch way the wind blows." John Belushi said it on the National Lampoon "Lemmings" album. I don't think he was the first to say it, but he said it on the album(1973).

I do like to know ahead of time if roads will be icy or lot of snow coming in. So I like reading the weather forecasts.

You know, some people actually like to know beforehand that this is going to happen. That's why there is weather forecasting. If you don't want to know, you are free not to click on these links. Nobody held a gun to your head and forced to you read this story.

As the weatherman says, we are all going to die over the next three days. Fog will get into our lungs. Snow will melt. Warm air will flow. Abandon all hope. I am amused how the weathermen shout apocalypse over every snowflake or raindrop these days. Beware! Weather is coming!! Ha, ha.
