Wis. GOP looks to expand wrongful death coverage

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill that would allow parents to sue if their fetuses die as a result of someone’s wrongful acts, including medical malpractice.

Under current state law, dead children’s families can file wrongful death claims but can’t pursue such claims for the loss of fetuses during the early stages of pregnancy.

Bill co-sponsors Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend and Rep. André Jacque of De Pere say the new law would recognize fetuses as human beings and allow families to pursue wrongful death claims if someone’s actions cause a fetus’ death at any point.

Democratic leaders in the Legislature did not immediately comment on the bill. Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s spokesman had no immediate comment.

No 916; but once you declare an unborn fetus to be a human being then you can ban abortion as murder; something that repubs have been itching to do for decades. I'm surprised you didn't make that connection - it's not a big leap.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. It is all in the wording. It is pro-life v.s. pro-choice (code for right to choose death for the fetus). It is "fair share" instead of pro tax increase and pro big government and more spending. If you call a wart a beauty mark, it is still a wart. Get a kick out of how both sides use the terminology that best supports their cause while hiding the actual real meaning. Democrats are especially good at it. What I do not get a kick out of is how the low informed voters just eat it up. Just saw a story recently that involved, if memory serves me right, a pregnant woman 2 days from due date who was killed and the fetus (viable big time) was also killed .... In that state, there was only allowed to be one murder charge. Had it been several days later and the baby had been born and both killed, it would have been two counts of murder .... Have a real problem with where you draw the line. Personally, my belief tends towards if the fetus is viable outside of the womb. IMHO

Too bad we can't sue the parents of these two idiots.

I am waiting for the abortion bill that Ark. just passed. I feel or state needs to get tough on abortion. Now is the time to protect the rights of the unborn.

No 916WI - A mother, or couple, could come back and sue the doctor who performed the abortion later on. They may come up with an argument that they were pressured by the doctor. The outcome of this bill would probably lead to increased prenatal care for expectant mothers, which in turn will lead to increase health insurance costs for all.

Dtb...huh? So the parents would sue themselves if they decided to get an abortion?

I think it is wrong for our politicians to use there positions to further their religious beliefs. Are they looking to pass even more laws that will get tied up in court for years and cost us tax payers even more money to defend?

This has nothing to do with wrongful death and everything to do with banning abortion.
