Wis. communities prepare for climate-change issues

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Officials in Dane County and elsewhere are setting up task forces to see how prepared they are to deal with symptoms of climate change.

A Wisconsin Public Radio report says the councils will evaluate how readily they can cope with issues such as heat, droughts and flooding. That includes studying how well they can protect vulnerable residents such as the elderly and infirm.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi says the effects of climate change are clear. He says 150 years ago Lake Mendota stayed frozen for about four months, but now it’s down to three months.

The Dane County council is expected to have its report and recommendations ready by September.
Similar task forces are also being created in places including Green Bay, La Crosse and Superior.

Harvard Astrophysicist Dr. Willie Soon, who has testified to Congress, will combat the myth of man-made global warming and the realities of CO2’s effect on our climate in Madison next week.
Since 1997 Dr. Soon has been at the forefront of the global warming debate, consistently putting facts ahead of media sensation. By doing this he has been able to show that the world today is not exceptionally warm in comparison to historical trends of the last 1000 years. Listen as Dr. Soon explains where top experts have gone wrong and the lessons that can be taken from those mistakes.

All testing done by scientists state they can document temperature changes back 400,000 years from today. So if the earth is between 5-6 billion years old, that means the slice of data they are basing this off of is 1 to 12,500 total possible and for 5 billion its 1 to 15,000 total possible for 6 billion years old. With that said what the scientists are claiming is a theory based on the limited amount of information they have available. I don't doubt the earth may be warming up but at the same time I believe it is just running through cycles. What can be said with proven facts as to what caused the ice age and warmed it back up again? Am I to believe the dinosaurs were giving off too much methane from their fecal matter or their large SUV's to get around? At some point our planet is going to shake us off like pulling a blanket off a bed and it will be a do over for Earth.

yes the earth has and will undergo regular cooling and warming cycles. The records we have show we should be in a cooling cycle, but we are warming.
-
It's also shown that about 15% less of the sun's energy is getting thru our atmosphere than before, again pointing towards cooling, yet we haven't.
-
and to the yahoo pointing to an article about antarctic sea ice, I think a little investigation about the difference between sea ice and inland ice and their importance around Antarctica are in order for you, and the guy writing an editorial for Forbes.

The earth has regular warming and cooling cycles. Amazing how people can't understand that. Quit thinking you can do anything about it. Spending tax payer money on it is foolish. If a private firm want's to waste the money, then fine, just quit using mine on pushing an agenda.

lovemycountry, you will note that Mr. Taylor (a fellow at the Heartland Institute, by the way, which is mostly funded by the heavily energy-industry-invested Koch brothers, and has ties to ALEC), actually acknowledges in that article that climate change is taking place. It is not a refutation of climate change theory to note that Antarctic sea ice is increasing while Arctic sea ice is diminishing. At best, he is countering media interpretations of climate change. Taylor is not a scientist; he's a J.D.
.
Heartland Institute is a cheery place who regularly compares climate change advocates (whatever that is; somebody who believes in science?) to Ted Kaczynski, Osama bin Laden, and other notorious criminals. Clearly a serious academic venue, doncha think.

virginia...that doesn't mean they (state gov't) have any impact as to what the report says...the report is based on facts, not conjecture, and political influence or affiliation has nothing to do with the report...just read it Virginia, because there is climate change, and it has already impacted Wisconsin...

study provided by my university, not your government...the evidence is clear...not sure where common sense went out the window on this one...it's real, it's here...accept it and let's work together to deal with this, because it affects all of us, not just those of us who are willing to accept it...
