MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says he will not ask the Wisconsin Supreme Court to consider putting on hold a lower court’s ruling that threw out major portions of the law that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public unions.

Van Hollen’s decision Friday comes after a state appeals court on Tuesday refused to issue a stay.

Van Hollen says he is focused on the merits of the case which is pending before a state appeals court. He says he is confident the entire law will ultimately be upheld.

The appeal comes to a ruling last year that overturned the law as it pertained to school and local government workers in Madison and Milwaukee. There is confusion over whether the ruling affects just those two cities or is statewide.

Maynard - I know what you mean about kicking the can down the road. Walker wants to increase our debt by another billion dollars. He wants to give us a tax break with the budget surplus instead of paying for debt. This doesn't sound fiscally concervative to me.

I agree that cuts need to be made across the country including refinements to entitlement programs. However, not likely to happen. Now you have Trump telling the Republicans to be careful not to make entitlement cuts or they will lose elections. Too bad the 435 representatives, 100 senators, and President can not put the needs of the country 1st and their political parties and reelection chances 2nd. Just do not see that courage on either side to do that. Just keep kicking the can down the road until there is major austerity cuts required immediately on everyone instead of minimal changes made now that will affect people 55 and younger in 10 years and they will have more time to prepare for.
