Walker for president?

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Saturday, March 16, 2013 - 5:26 p.m.

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker got a warm reception from conservative activists in an early road-test of possible Republican presidential candidates.

Walker thrilled the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday when he declared: “In America, we believe in the people and not in the government.”

The Republican governor says that’s why in America, “we take a day off and celebrate the Fourth of July and not the 15th of April.”

Walker told The Associated Press late last month that a 2016 presidential bid “would be an option,” although it wasn’t something he was “actively pursuing.”

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate issued a statement saying it was “shocking” that Walker would contemplate a presidential bid “after a dismal record of job loss, division, diminished standards and unethical conduct.”

dtb good job on bringing up all the attacks under Bush's watch. I was thinking the same thing. Embassies have been under attack for decades. I found it funny that the only thing Fox news had to report around election time was Bengahzi. Once in a while you have to watch Fox news for a laugh. What a bunch of morons. Fair and Balanced. LOL. You have to report on both sides to be fair. Besides you had a good point 911. In our own country besides. Great job Bush. My point here is these things happen under any Presidents watch and posts like wislady's show how narrow minded people are. They always forget what happened when their party was in office.

All blogging and kidding aside- this is a very disturbing idea. It almost plays out as a Hollywood movie that the stupidist person in the room runs for president and actually wins. I'm beginning to think that Rand Paul's filibuster about drones and oversight has some merit. The "what if" someone like Walker ( or Palin) or God forbid, both, actually had the power...? Pretty darn scary.

More dem twisting in the wind, "There you go again, deflecting from the article. The story is about Walker running for President, not what the Democratic Party will do."

Wrong, but that is no surprise. The story is about comments, there is no run for any office. The meme was put forth by a question from the AP to the current gov and then conveniently included ignorant comments from the dem state chair.

Then again expecting you to stay truthful was never expected badger.

Wislady, no matter how you weakly try to spin Walker, the facts show that his record is among the worst, if not the worst, of any governor in the nation. In short, he's a failure except in his own mind and the minds of his tea party supporters. The concept of Walker as president is laughable.

Watergate? Well, at least no one died in Watergate, unlike Benghazi gate.

Very interesting that the story about the BLS being way off on Wisconsin jobs numbers for the year 2012, doesn't get any press.

Highlights of the benchmarked estimates for Wisconsin include:

The Federal government’s
initial estimate for total non-farm jobs December 2012 was off by 67,100

when benchmarked, representing a correction of 2.5 percent
for a revised total estimate of 2.796
million jobs that month from under 2.73
million jobs (seasonally adjusted).

The BLS’ estimated
private-sector job count was also off by 2.5 percent, or 58,400 jobs

seasonally
adjusted, for December 2012 when the benchmarked
totals are compared to the initial estimates.

The BLS’ estimates show Wisconsin posted
year-over-year job gains during every month in 2012
on a
seasonally adjusted basis, contr
adicting initial estimates that had indicated job year-over-year
losses
during 10 of 12 months during 2012.

The benchmarking aligns all indicators, and all indicators show Wisconsin is creating jobs

I have never been on any kind of welfare and hope I never need it. But to all of you who sit there and basically say welfare should be done away with. Maybe you should sign a waiver stating you will never accept it even if you become disabled. Think about that. As I said before their are a lot of people screwing the system and this needs to be addressed, but you can't just start yanking it. I mean welfare is probably a fraction of taxpayer money compared to subsidies given to oil companies who are screwing us.

People who have any rational thoughts no that failed policies of republicans got us into the recession. And it really irritates me when I hear it is Obamas fault. Yeah he ruined the economy in one month when he took office didn't he. LOL. What a bunch of BS. I honestly would hate to think how much worse it would be right now if Mccain and Palin would have won their election. You whine about mounting student debt and 4 yr. degrees and no job prospects. Isn't technical training just as important? How about You creating solutions instead of crying for change just to see change? The year 2013 and You can"t come up with solutions to enhance safety, and environmetal issues? You don't want taxes raised, yet You bawl that everyone should see an increase in benefits and wages without interruption to any services. Why not come up with common sense solutions (win-win)? Here's one for You. A lending institution is fined( one of many throughout the years) $615 million for bad decisions (as reported last week)where does that money go? The banking industry passes that cost onto the consumers. They engage in unlawful pratices again only to be caught and another gazillion in fines is levied against them. See the pattern? Why not divy these millions up to the masses to really jump start the economy? Take another gazillion from all exbortant CEO's pay and bonuses and spread the wealth around. That could never happen because You would cry that everyone is lazy and living off of YOU. Lastly, You should be proud that our governor came out clean in the John Doe probe, see SC ex-gov Sanford as one example among too many other shady characters.

I'm all for letting Walker run for President. He could barely handle himself in a debate with Barrett, do you think he'll suddenly do better on a national level? When asked hard questions he always deflects to the company line with a pat answer. If he did run for president, he would be the Rick Perry of 2016. He might get a lot of buzz at the beginning, but as his policies are examined, his background exposed, and tough questions asked, he would fade into the bottome % of candidates. Paul Ryan would have a much better chance (and just beat Walker on a poll).

Personally I am not in the least bit worried about this - in fact running for President might be just the thing to get him out of Wisconsin. He is far too polarizing of a figure to be a successful presidential candidate. Republicans have, hopefully, learned that they can't run an extreme candidate and win. We'd all be better off with more moderate candidates on both sides.

way, every Governor balances the budget - they have to. Truth is, it's not really balanced and SW has used the same tricks that Doyle, McCallum, Thompson, et al used to make it appear to be balanced.

And not everyone's taxes are lower.

Walker must not have been paying attention when Romney/Ryan were rejected by America. Not even the repubs want a Walker type for a candidate. They found out last November that they need a different kind of candidate; one that will appeal to minority voters, etc. And just wait until the national media gets a hold of the fact he was kicked out of college.
