Newest Viking is the butt of jokes
Here's how we cope with seeing our once-beloved (OK, some of you faithful Favre fans love him no matter what) quarterback dressed in purple: We joke about it. E-mail senders and cartoonists are having a field day with Favre.
Maybe you saw our Cam Cardow cartoon in today's Gazette. If not, look for it in our cartoons in our online opinion section (it will likely cycle out by day's end).
Cartoonist Joe Heller of the Green Bay Press-Gazette is always quick with a cartoon about Favre or Packer news. He sent out one in late July, saying Favre was part of the Vikings' "Cash for Clunkers" program, but quickly had to update it when Favre changed his mind and told the Vikings he wouldn't join them. The updated one, which we ran July 30, added the line "How much do you want to bet he won't retire?"
Now that Favre has indeed decided to play again, Heller re-sent the original "Cash for Clunkers" cartoon for newspapers to use (below):
Here's a joke that a colleague sent my by e-mail this morning. Another colleague says it's old, but I hadn't heard or read it before:
God asks Peyton Manning first: "What do you believe?"
Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans."
God can't help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left.
Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, "What do you believe?"
Tony says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields."
God is greatly moved by Tony's sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.
Finally, God turns to Brett Favre: "And you, Brett, what do you believe?"
Brett replies, "I believe you're in my seat."
Have you heard any other good (clean) ones? If so, share them.

I could care less about how much money he's getting or what his stats are. I'm just glad his fans get another season to watch him play. :)

Brett Favre has reportedly been sending x-rays to the Minnesota Vikings. It seems like an unnecessary gesture since everyone can already see right through him.

The Vikings have agreed to pay Brett Favre $25 million over two years, or roughly $100 per interception.

These jokes ARE funny! Even Brett Favre is cashing in- I saw a clip of a Sears commercial on TV last night that has Favre poking fun at himself about people being "undecided."

Do you think a Super Bowl trip might quell the laughter! I do!

i too can't seem to WATCH a game. i tend to find stuff to do to keep busy. years ago, that was not the case. i would look forward to sunday afternoon and relaxing with a coke and snacks and engage in a running commentary on the game in front of me. now, it seems the score suffices. end on story; end of game.

1-4 for 4 yards.
Last night he looked like a guy who skipped OTA's, mini-camp, two-a-days and spent his time throwing balls to high school kids.

I bet brett is laughing all the way to the bank with 12 million, etc. Hell, give me a couple months at age 39 and I'll try my best to play QB for 12 million. Who wouldn't? That is the problem with the NFL, NBA, and MLB. I don't watch the games like I used to growing up simply because it is all about the money now instead of the pride in playing 110%.

So, Cinderella, Pinnochio and Superman go to a carnival. They walk down the midway, and soon come to a tent with a sign that says "Beauty Contest! Enter Inside!" Pinnochio and Superman say to Cinderella "You should enter! You could win!" So Cinderella goes inside, and after awhile emerges with a tiara, sash and a bouquet of roses and says "You were right! I won!" They then continue on until they come to another tent, where a strong man contest is going on. Of course Cinderella and Pinnochio encourage Superman to enter, and he readily agrees. Soon he exits the tent with a medal and a trophy, exclaiming "You were right, I won!" So on they go, and soon come to yet another tent with a contest going on, this one for "World's Biggest Liar". Cinderella and Superman tell Pinnochio "Alright, it's your turn. You've got this one hands down!" So Pinnochio enters. After about an hour he emerges from the tent with a frown and a hangdog expression, and with a shake of his head asks "Who the heck is Brett Favre?"
