Brewers leave me bummed out
I'm glad I wasn't in the stands at Miller Park on Sunday. I might have booed right along with some of the other frustrated Brewers fans in the sellout crowd.
Can the Brewers make the playoffs if GM Doug Melvin pulls off a big trade for a top pitcher? I doubt it. This team has too many holes. It scores runs too inconsistently, and it needs about three more solid starting pitchers, not one. If Melvin makes a trade in hopes of making the playoffs this year, my bet is it won't work and he'll only be killing the team's chances of future success.
In his column July 19, Gazette Editor Scott Angus suggested it's fun watching the Brewers play winning baseball. Um, last time I checked the standings, the club is back to .500. Sure, that's great compared to the many inept teams since that World Series team back in 1982 (I was in the stands, by the way), but even if Melvin makes a big trade, I think the Brewers will be looking at second or third place in their own division.
Back in my teen years, a buddy and I used to refer to the team's troubles as the "Brewer disease." Trade for a player, and he seemed to tank or get injured. I thought the recently acquired Felipe Lopez might have caught that malaise when he quickly came down with a hamstring injury. It was good to see him back in the lineup over the weekend.
During my furlough last week, as I read about former all-stars Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, I kept thinking back to the National League all-star team's loss this month to the American League. It seems the National League can't win the all-star game anymore. Longtime fans will recall when the National League couldn't lose the annual game.
Then it struck me. The Brewers were in the American League when the National League dominated the all-star game; now the Brewers are in the National League, and...well, you can see where this is going.
So I took time out during my furlough to add up the totals. Since the Brewers came to Milwaukee as the former Seattle Pilots, all-star teams with Brewers on their roster are a paltry 10-28-1. (They were 10-17 while in the American League and are an incredibly sad 0-11-1 since Milwaukee moved to the National League).
Sure, it's a coincidence. You can't blame one or two Brewers' players for all those all-star game losses. But maybe the "Brewer disease" is contagious...

'handicapper 1st'haha
That brings back memories when I 1st met kiowa in the film replay room of the race track. Me and the frieds I was with are all impressed watching this dog run on a film replay, and this guy sitting next to us (kiowa) says the dog has no chance to win. Tells us 'I hope she wins, because I own the dog, but she'll wait, and prob be 2nd or 3rd' Well, lomg story short, the dog was in a neck and neck race all the way around the track, and its a lengthy photo to determine the winner. Result comes up, and his dog wins! hahaha. He's sitting at this big round table with friends like some mafioso guy, with this real stoic look. Then comes people flocking up to him saying 'I though you said she could not win' and claiming that he sold them out, and cashed in on the win. So he starts showing all his tickets where he had the dog keyed in 2nd place, and saying 'that photo cost me a fortune' and of course everyone is like yeah right, where are the real tickets?' haha.
Then as a joke one of my friends sends his 7 yr old newphew up to him, cheering about how fast his dog good that dog was, and how they won big betting it to win!! He then went from stoic, to busting out in laughter and asked the kid if he wanted to go see the dog? So he took us all down so the kid could go pet the dog, and it was wagging it's tail jumping up and hugging people. Then the dog jumps up on kiowa, and he starts petting it, and is like thanks a lot, you only cost me 2000 dollars, hahaha.
At least he was a good sport over the whole thing. But the moral is that it is not always a good thing to be a 'handicapper 1st' hahaha.

I'm always a handicapper 1st, and a fan 2nd. I just just tell it the way I see it. Another 8 runs given up tonight to the worse offensive team in baseball..That's 22 runs in 2 games to a horrific offensive team. They have not won a single series the entire month of July. They have no heart. You can see it by watching many of the players. It's a classic case of capitulation, in every sense of the word.

I love the Brewers, winning or losing and I still have hope. Though it may be misguided, I still believe in them! Go crew!!!You are either a diehard fan or fickle fan and that is what you 2 sound like. Support them or don't but if you do, do it all the way weather good times or bad. don't be a fickle fan, they don't need that. What they need to hear is a good word, just like all of us at times.

They are totally done. The team has quit. All you needed to see from Sundays game was the play where JJ Hardy hit a ball that deflected off the pitcher. An easy base hit IF he's running, but he just jogged down the line. Right then I just turned the game off and watched NASCAR. When you see that, you know the team has mailed it in. Corey Hart also just let a few routine balls drop in front of him, I heard. All those are signs that a team has quit.
The very 1st thing I did was advance wager on the Nationals in tonights game at juicy +130 price. I did not even watch the game..Turned on sports center and heard the worse offensive team in baseball(which Washington is) scored 14 runs!!! While one of their journeyman players hit TWO grand slams to make all the sports highlight shows!
Sad to see for the Brewers, but you might as well cash in when you see the implosion in progress.
