Janesville mourns two of its best
Janesville is right to mourn the loss of two of its top physical education teachers, Wesley Mayer and Larry Cain. Mayer, 77, retired in 1991, but Cain, 58, was still teaching at Van Buren Elementary School. Both left behind hundreds if not thousands of admiring students.
In the Gazette's editorial Tuesday, we'll reflect on their careers, which extended far beyond gym classes, and on what made the two so special.

Oh, and I'd like to add that both teachers were fine gentlemen who changed the lives of so many young people for the better. Janesville has lost 2 heroes.

I knew both and Wes and Larry. They were both wonderful people and it saddens me that the Gazette doesn't omit all the negative commentary. As I stood in line for hours for both their visitations it was clearly evident how they both touched so many lives. This is a time to remember the positive these two gentlemen gave to our community.

This is very sad :-( My daughter goes to Van Buren Elementary School and always talked about how much fun Mr. Cain's gym classes were! He will be missed greatly by all of his students of present and past. Rest in Peace Mr. Cain :-(
