Vote on endangered species license plates
Since 1995, the state of Wisconsin has sold special license plates featuring a gray wolf to benefit its endangered species program. The wolf design will still be available, but the state is considering four new designs that showcase Wisconsin's diverse wildlife. It wants your input in selecting which one to use. View them below.
The options illustrate the Eastern bluebird, the great blue heron, a red-headed woodpecker and the American badger. People have until Monday to vote at dnr.wi.gov. Look for the license plate designs flashing under the "features" category.
The state Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources will make the final decision. The new plate should be ready early next year and will cost an extra $25. Proceeds benefit the DNR's endangered resources program.
The DNR chose the four options, and graphic artist Nancy Rudd of New Glarus donated her time to design the plates. The DNR is hoping the new design draws an extra $1 million to protect native plants and animals.
Here's my pick: On first thought, before seeing them, I would have picked the badger. But its bland colors don't stick out as a strong illustration on such a small medium. I like woodpeckers and herons, but I have greater fondness for the bluebird, and the colors in that plate design, which includes a monarch butterfly, earned my vote.

Yeah I liked those yellow and black plates. One sure could tell which state you were from at a glance, now they almost all look alike. Heck most you can't even tell which state they are from unless you are right up cloe to them (especially if they have a licence plate frame on them)

I also would like to see people actually put their year stickers where they belong in the lower corner over the old sticker...not all over the plate having multiple years showing.

I’m with janesvillecomments on this one, “yellowjacket” or bust!
.
I’m surprised our tax-happy politicians haven’t started selling deer license plates, for only an extra $50. You have to have one if you hit a deer, otherwise you’re fined $1000 or so. Count on those to be big sellers!

I vote to eliminate all donations such as this, which act as matching funds of our federal tax dollars. Any donations, therefor, create a tax I do not want to pay as a result. I also suspect the Endangered Resources Program is also partially funded by state tax dollars as well, even though the DNR is partially funded by licenses, fees & fines.

Since the goal is to raise money...they should sell naming rights for license plates to Petland, Purina, etc.....

Bring back the "yellowjacket" license plates. They proclaimed the vehicle was from Wisconsin as soon as you glanced at them. The "Shirley Temple" plates (white like too many other state's plates and crusted with garbage around the edges) are ugly and indestinctive. We don't need stampings of barns or birds on the plates, just make them with black letters with a yellow background!
