Attaboy, Steve
It’s too bad that the Super Bowl overshadowed Steve Stricker’s victory Sunday in pro golf’s Northern Trust Open.
As our story in today’s Gazette mentioned, it was Stricker’s eighth victory on pro golf's tour and the eighth time he’s cried in post-game interviews.
So what? In this era of prima-donna athletes with overinflated egos, Stricker’s humble, Midwest values and “aw, shucks,” personality are refreshing.
I enjoyed reading Bill Dwyre’s profile of Stricker in Saturday’s Gazette. Dwyre once worked for the Milwaukee Journal and now writes for the Los Angeles Times. His story told how Phil Mickelson, the No. 2 golfer in the world, was surrounded by adoring fans as he signed autographs after Thursday’s first round. Meanwhile, a few steps away, the No. 3 golfer, Stricker, “talked quietly to a reporter, uninterrupted and mostly unnoticed.”
Maybe that’s the way Steve likes it.
After Sunday’s victory, look who holds the world’s No. 2 ranking (behind someone named Tiger) today. It’s Steve Stricker.
Attaboy, Steve.

My uncle was a Stricker, he lived in Edgerton and used to own the Edgerton shoe store. You got a problem with that, JohnWicket?? ;-)

Hey Wicket! what does your comment have to do with the price of eggs? It was a great victory for Steve! are you having a bad day or what? and there are alot of people that know him and proud to say so,I am sure he does or will help Edgerton in some way or another charity wise.

Why is it that almost anybody from Edgerton claims to be a shirt-tail relation of Steve Stricker? Are we all wannabees or is the town really that small? I still think he should sell his used socks as a fundraiser for various charities.
