Are you for or against Favre?

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Thursday, January 21, 2010 - 10:14 a.m.

Two years ago, quarterback Brett Favre led his team into the NFC Championship with a shot at a Super Bowl crown on the line. He’s there again this Sunday. The only difference, need I remind you, is this time he’s dressed in that hated purple instead of in our beloved green and gold.

Now that the Packers are out of the playoffs, it raises the question for Green Bay fans: Are you rooting for Favre to win another Super Bowl title, or do you despise too much his tactics that led him to play with the Vikings?

To be honest, I’m leaning the latter way. A small part of me smiles at his successes; after all, you can’t help but appreciate his still kid-like enthusiasm for the game and what he did for Green Bay all those years. A larger part of me, however, grins when a hulking defensive tackle or speedy blitzer puts him on his backside.

I still believe the Packer brass was more right than Favre in this ugly divorce. I believe Green Bay’s accusations—though they couldn’t be proven—that Favre and the Vikings were colluding to get Old No. 4 in a Minnesota uniform a couple of seasons ago. Favre knows how much animosity his winding up with the Vikings of all teams would create among Wisconsinites. He went there anyway—thumbing his nose at Green Bay fans—and all to further inflate his ego.

So this weekend, are you cheering for Favre or not?

Greg Peck

I was waiting for Favre's post game comments...but I guess he couldn't make it to the mike because his pants were on the floor.

you know Favre is my most favorite player, right along with Walter Payton and Joe Theisman, but the Vikings, I would of rather seen him play for the Bears. I am a big Packer fan and will always be, but boy I hate the vikings, My second favorite team is the Saints, but I hope Favre goes all the way, maybe he will than retire on top of the game.

We all are taught sportsmanship at a young age,you bashers did not learn nothing! Root for who you want, but some of you know nothing about sportsmanship!! Just a frickin game, just like life itself! Being first does not mean you are a winner, unless you can react in a positive way either way, think about it.

I'm a Packer fan first and foremost. That being said, I love the way Brett Favre loves the game...Since the Packer's are out, I'll cheer on Favre. Besides, I bet a Favre-hater ten bucks that the Vikings would win the superbowl...

Will always enjoy watching Favre play and will be sad when he truly retires. No one plays the game like he does and enjoys it like he does. I'm a Packers fan, but will always be a Brett Favre fan. GO BRETT!

He is one of the best QBs to play the game and you can dog him and disrespect him all you want But he has given a great performance as a Packer and Now he is giving one as a Viking. Yes Rodgers is doing well but a long way from breaking Bretts records.... He may beat one soon most sacks as a QB. I am a Packers fan always will be yet Watching Brett play was awesome and he will always be my fav. QB I also root for the Pack and I am also a division backer and the Pack is not in the playoffs so I'll Root for the Vikings and Brett Favre GO VIKINGS.

I respect and appreciate everything Favre accomplished with the Packers. He is statistically one of the best quarterbacks to play in the league and will be in the HOF. I enjoyed watching him play for the Packers as much as anyone. But he and the Packers don't owe anything to each other. Favre was paid extremely well by the Packers for his service. He helped deliver a Superbowl championship to the franchise in '96 for which I am sure the organization and fans are grateful. He helped make the Packers relavant again after the 70's and 80's drought. When the Packers decided to trade Favre it unfortunately divided fans into the pro packer faction and pro favre faction. It seems to me that the trade worked out well for both teams so everyone should be happy.

Respected Favre when he was a Packer. Have even more respect for Rodgers as he is the current leader of the team. Before it is said and done, Rodgers will break some of Favres records. Go Rodgers and PACK! Boooo Favre and Vikings!!!

Surely there is something more newsworthy than this rehash of Brett Favre. Since the Packers could not get it done I will cheer for our division. And for Brett Favre I am glad that he is trying to rub the Packers nose in it. Everyone says how much Favre owes the Packers and its laughable. How many #4 jerseys did Green Bay sell? And how much money did Brett make Green Bay taking them to a super bowel? The man is a hall of fame quarterback we should be glad we had him for the time we did. But some people just can't let it go...take your green and gold pill and relax

As a Packer fan who muddled through the 70s and 80s with the team's big mistakes I love the Brett. Animosity for Green Bay fans, from Favre? What kind of dribble are you selling today Mr. Peck? Collusion? Pfft. Racers go racing no matter who's running the org., and quarterbacks play football. Terry Bradshaw, Jimmie Johnson, and Howie Long all praise the Brett Man for this being his best season ever in stats, and his continued record breaking efforts! Now, in current football issues today, who knows QBs better than Terry Bradshaw? You can disagree with me all you want but TB and Howie?

kiowamohican-I could not have said it better. We could say that 1,000 times, some people are just FavreHaters. Refusing to ackowledge what he has done for that organization. Two years ago these same people were loving him as the Pack went to the NFC championship. It's too bad.
We as fans will never know what really went down. We know what we hear and read. Thanks to the media.

I'm a big packer fan, and will be routing for Favre ALL THE WAY, no matter WHO he plays for!! I didn't like how Ted Thompson, and Co, treated him, and do not believe he betrayed the Packers WHAT SO EVER!! I have moved on, and still enjoy watching the Packers, with Rodgers, and there many gifted new talents. I will ALWAYS cheer for Favre though. He is a once in a million type talent, that you will likely never see again.

How can ANY Packer fan forget the things he did in Green Bay......The game vs Oakland after his Dad passed away. The ENDLESS GENUINE enthusiasm he had in EVERY game, and UNBELIEVABLE ruggedness.. The struggles he went through with pain pill addiction.....All the work he and his wife did in the community.
.
He's one of the few super stars who I really believe is genuine (and this is coming from someone who is VERY cynical). Does he have an ego? OF COURSE, but who at that level DOESN'T?? The guy was playing ball, and helping coach the local high school when he was called up by Childress to come back to the pros. What other athlete of that magnitude does that? He married his high school sweat heart...Most super star athletes now have the Brazilian super model (Tom Brady), or the mistress of the month (Tiger woods), and are TOTAL phonies. I was one saying Tiger Woods was the biggest phony out there YEARS AGO! Favre is one where I think you can really buy a kid a jersey, and not have to worry about some embarrassing scandal (sex scandal, Drugs, gambling, steroids, ext). He's really one for the ages, and one I will always cheer for, and truly miss when he really does retire (for the 17th time, haha)

All things move on. Brett Favre moved on (now a couple of times) and the Packers have moved on and our own lives have moved on. For those who are true Packer fans I think it is a disgrace to root for an ex player that has crossed over the line to the competition. Period.

The Vikings are where they are in the playoffs as a result of their defense not the offense. I cannot root for a division rival. I hope the Vikings championship trophy case remains empty. It would be funny to see the Jets beat the Vikings in the Super Bowl.

Even though the game comes on early Monday morning HK time, I will be watching and monitoring the game live by taking the day off of work. Although my beloved Packers are not in the playoffs, I will jump on the band wagon are hope for a Saints win. I'm proud to see Brett in the playoffs, but why, oh why, did he choose to wear that damn Vikings uniform? I hope they get squashed like a bug!

It is irrelevant to me. The Packers are out so all I hope for in the playoffs now is good and entertaining games. So far 6 of the 8 playoff games have been horrible to watch unless you are a fan of one of the winning teams. I do have to admit that I would snicker a little if we witnessed yet another Favre playoff meltdown. I just think the team around him, especially the defense, is so good that a meltdown is unlikely. So, as I see it, either the Vikings or Saints will represent the NFC in the Superbowl and if that team can win the Superbowl, it will be that team's first Championship ever...putting them only 11 behind the Pack.

The man is a great QB and it was a pleasure (most of the time- sans interceptions) watching him play as a Packer. He is the kind of guy who loves the game, that is why he couldn't stay retired.
.
That said, I cannot root for him at this time because of the team with which he is associated. If he had gone to Chicago I could (maybe)cheer him halfheartedly but never while wearing satans colors ;) (its those stupid horns that drive me to the heights of hostility)

I'm happy for Farve would like to see him succeed. Any guy who can still play at his level at that age deserves respect. Packer fans seem to forget how horrid they were for decades before #4. Even though it didn't end well, that doesn't erase all the achievements and things Farve brought to Green Bay. Packer fans shouldn't be bitter, they should be happy Farve brought respect back to the Packers.

I am not going to cheer for Favre, however, I am not bitter that he went to the Vikings. If he can still play at his age, and he wants to do it for the hated Vikings, who cares. I am not going to lose sleep over it. He did a lot for Green Bay-the city and the team. It is what it is. I have moved on. Paul Molitor could've stayed in Milwaukee but went to Canada and then to Minnosota. Mike Holgrum went to Settle and could've stayed in Green Bay. Why lose sleep over it or get upset about it. It is a sport. A form of entertainment. A soap opera.
