How will you be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day?
It will be another busy workday for me today, made only more hectic by going to help serve at the Roosevelt School Breakfast Club this morning. I’m long past those wild days of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day like when I attended UW-Oshkosh.
In fact, after a routine supper, my wife and I plan to wrestle our stove out of the kitchen to make way for new flooring.
UW-Oshkosh had gained notoriety for riotous St. Patrick’s Day celebrations before I arrived on campus in the mid-1970s. I don’t recall them being that wild when I studied there, however.
Much of the problem apparently came from young people who weren’t part of the university streaming into town for the big party. Maybe it was the days of the week when St. Pat’s fell when I attended UW-O; maybe it was the weather. Whatever, I don’t recall any huge problems with parties getting out of hand.
It was interesting to read reporter Catherine W. Idzerda’s story today about how UW-Whitewater students are expected to celebrate. Some Whitewater bars were expected to open by 6 or 7 a.m., and an inebriated student or two might have to be hauled out of class.
I don’t recall bars opening that early at UW-O, and I don’t think I ever went to class after drinking.
I’m glad to hear that the Rock County Sheriff’s Office is using a grant to beef up patrols today through the weekend. We don’t need any more drunks on the road.
What about you? Is green beer, corned beef and cabbage, or perhaps a shamrock shake on tap for you today?
Whatever you do, play it safe out there.

As I do on as many holidays as I can, work with adults with disabilities. I'd much rather do that than drink.

Funny about moving the stove out for new flooring. Our stove has been in the dining room since last week because of a new floor. No homemade corned beef and cabbage at our house tonight. Still may have the beer part of it but dinner on Sunday instead. Happy St Pats Day to everyone

Its an at random Ammature-Night for drinkers. This would not serve to a greater purpose to promote the Irish, or what the origins of this holiday were established for.
This is another over-the-centry's case and point ideals of Man's gone wild ideas run ammock.
I intend upon drinking water, watch tv, and slip off into slumberland knowing I have way more winter waste cleaned up off my lawn than the beer drinking herd does.
