Ten ways to put more fun in winter
An emailed news release from Travel Wisconsin piqued my interest. Now that snow is blanketing the Badger State, it suggested 10 ways to put more fun in a Wisconsin winter, both indoors and outdoors.
Some of the outdoor ideas you can guess—snowmobiling, and downhill and cross country skiing, for example.
Some of the indoor ideas are no secret either—visiting a spa, museum or art gallery, for example.
However, I had never considered at least one idea—snow tubing.
You know, those big colorful rings you usually think of for floating down a water slide or lazy river at an outdoor water park in summer or an indoor one at Wisconsin Dells in winter.
“Snow tubing is a fun, no-skill-needed activity and a great way to get the whole family involved,” the release said.
Lots of ski resorts across the state offer dedicated snow tubing hills, complete with towropes, the release said. Wilmot Mountain in Wilmot just opened a new snow tubing hill this season. It has a whopping 16 lanes and a “magic carpet” back to the top. For younger children, there’s a “kiddie” hill.
Sylvan Park in Wausau has the state’s largest snow tube hill. The hill’s west part has a vertical drop of 133 feet, and the east hill 120 feet.
State tourism officials urge you to check out this list of snow tubing destinations.
Hmm, maybe Cheryl and I need to take the grandkids for another weekend sometime before spring arrives.
Have you ever gone snow tubing? Do you think your family might enjoy it? What is your favorite Wisconsin winter vacation destination and activity?
