Good reasons for visiting 4-H Fair

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Friday, July 20, 2012 - 2:15 p.m.

What lures you to the Rock County 4-H Fair? Is it the mouth-watering delicacies, the thrill rides, the main-stage musical acts or the many talents and skills that local 4-H and FFA kids will have on display?

You may have noticed that advertisement announcing Gazette staffers who will meet and greet fairgoers at our tent just southeast of the Grandstand throughout next week. I’ll be there from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, so stop out and say hello. Afterward, I hope to join the crowd as the husband-and-wife duo Thompson Square put on their contemporary country music show with a little pop and rock mixed in.

This year, you might have one extra incentive for coming out to the fair: You can thank a farmer. We’ll explain in Sunday’s Gazette editorial.

I used to go when I was a kid. Are some of you offended by those carnies? Did they scare you? What do you think carnies are going to act like, English butlers? Carnies are carnies, always have been, get over yourselves.

No reason to visit. The food isn't good for you. The carnies are rude and dishonest. The rides are unsafe and smelly from little kids puking in them. It costs too much. And country music totally sucks big time. I'd rather spend time at Rotary Gardens.

With this economy Rock County's 4H Fair is NOT on my list!
The grounds are Tiny TINY.
I think the cost is not equivalent to what you get!
I heard also, that some Grandstand Shows will cost and extra $20 to go see!

Not a thing lures me to the fair. Kids decided to pass on 4-H this year and I must say, the house has been very peacefull this July. Not like past Julys, waiting till the last minute to work on those damn projects and running to the meetings at the worst times of the evening. I am going to enjoy this fair week just because I don't have to go and look at a bunch of crap or the kids projects.

"What lures you to the Rock County 4-H Fair?"

Carnies with missing teeth make crude, inappropriate comments to the fair goers walking down the midway.

At our age the fair just isn't what it used to be when we were young and sought out the thrill of the rides and games. Now with the kids all grown we tend to overlook the RCF and wait for the Walworth County Fair simply because of its size and the much larger display of the animals. It just seems that we get more for our admission money. Not saying anthing bad about the RCF but a person would think that the county would try to increase the size of the fair and attract more visitors and bring in more revenue for the county. Starting with a better location like they talked about some time back. It just seems that the RCF is a dying thing like so many other things in this city and county.
