Will it be Obama or Romney?

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Friday, November 2, 2012 - 4:01 p.m.

Do you think Barack Obama and Joe Biden have done enough to improve our economy and keep Americans safe? Are they leading us in the right direction? Do they deserve another four years?

Or do you think Republican Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, Janesville Congressman Paul Ryan, are better equipped to lead this nation into the future?

How much influence will having Ryan on the GOP ticket influence your vote Tuesday?

We’ll share our perspectives in our endorsement editorial Sunday.

USA--If they said, "Vote O because he's liberal", I would have probably been happy--I would hope I would also be similarly uninspired, that coming from a paper who professes to take a "leadership" role in this area. I'm not saying it would be easy to write a substantive endorsement of Mitt; I think you'll agree he's been on every side of every issue. But the rabid ideologues on both sides are paralyzing the political system, to the citizens' detriment.

Sigma: Obama was the first black POTUS, not the first black person (Nov 3, 2012 at 4:34 p.m)

Not going to venture a guess as to the winner and not going to reveal my personal choice. I just can't wait for November 7th so I can quit enduring 15 robocalls a day and all the other pre-election half truths and nonsense by both sides. Of course, I'll still have to listen to a bunch of whining for the next four years, by those who endorsed the losing candidate, when we start the whole process all over.

Romney has absolutely no plan to cut the deficit. Supply side will not do anything but increase it.Apparently the deficit is last on the list for conservatives. However, we know Romney will win a close race for Wisconsin's electoral votes because Waukesha county always "finds" an extra 5,000 votes or so for the republicans. Whatever it takes. How do you think a recount would go with Walkers troops carrying it out? Wait for it...

Somehow, the Gazette endorsing Mitt, for the same reason they endorsed 'lyin Paul Ryan' and Tommy--because they are conservative--is uninspriring. The fact that Scott Angus all but apologized for it at the same time says a lot. Somehow, thinking of Bliss and the Gazette as 'guardians of the first amendment' is not comforting, with positions like these.

Romney wasn't my first choice, nor my 2ND, 3rd, 4Th, 5Th or 6Th.

When I looked at a man that is a self made millionaire that came from a wealthy family, that still taught Sunday school, remained married to his 1960's sweetheart, and raised 5 boys that never get their names in the tabloids, I'm all in for Mitt.

If either Obama or Romney win, will we, the public, win? Look to your local elections if you are seeking solace. Maybe you will find a willing public servant who will really serve you, not the wealthy or well-indoctrinated. Perhaps, Congress will actually move forward in the next four years and not stand up as an obstacle any longer. Whoever is in charge, please get something done. Standing still is not progress.

Rasmussen-Both candidates do well within their own party, while Romney has a nine-point advantage among unaffiliated voters.

Independents decide elections.

Most polls are projecting from 2008 levels. 2010 was a schlacking endorcement of Obama's failures. We are not done until he is handed a pink slip on November 6th.

Eagle1: I agree ... neither of the above. Obama and Biden, imo. do not deserve another term. This country can not afford another term. That said, it is a shame he did not have a moderate Democrat primary opponent but that just is not the way it is done in politics. You do not run against a sitting president in your own party even if he is not getting the job done. I believe H. Clinton would have been a better president. Romney is, imo, a RINO (republican in name only). He had to try to look like a conservative to get his party nomination and now is getting accused of flip flopping as he goes back to what he really is. But as long as the only way you can get to run in the fall for President, Senate, House, etc. is by being far left or far left ...I do not think either party is good for this country. Obama has clearly showed that he is highly Partisan instead of the hope and change and bi-partianship he promised. Republicans showed the same partianship during the last 4 years. Romney showed he could work across the aisle as Governor with a legislature made up of 87% Democrats so I think there is more hope there. However, the two parties will handcuff whoever is President. Unless they both wake up ... which I doubt ... this country does not have a good future for our children and grandchildren. IMO

The entire argument about rich people is a deflection from the real threats against our liberties. People have got to stop falling into that trap. We can live our lives as we see fit. The government does not have to do it for us. Social progress is meaningless without economic stability. I choose accountability over fluff any day! Mitt Romney was very Presidential during this campaign and I will feel safe with Paul Ryan backing him up.

The executive office, the President, should not put world views ahead of American values. American-suffering is being called progress. Our liberties are in danger and it is called freedom? Executive orders and U.N. involvement are wrongly taking the place of the Constitution.
*
Great times are ahead of us, and voters in Wisconsin realize that 'hope and change' were only trumpeted words of the last campaign and have now faded. Now it is time to get back to repairing our economy and our spirit! Our problems are more local and can be repaired with basic American quality. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will put America first again!

Obama will win. I trust him to support the best interests of ALL Americans, not just the rich corporate billionaires. I trust him not to drag us into another war without good reason. I trust him not to dismantle our social programs that help prevent rampant poverty and disease in our country. I trust him to recognize that not every problem can be solved by a tax cut for small businesses. Romney has not revealed any details of his supposed five point plan other than Ryan "Path to Destruction" that he may or may not fully support, depending on who's asking. In fact Romney doesn't seem to have a firm position on much of anything other than that he wants to be President. Ryan is as right-wing as it gets with his Randian philosophy of every man for himself. Not to mention his extreme positions on women's health and equality. There is not one single position the Romney/Ryan ticket has that supports the needs of the working class or the elderly.

It's not that I didn't expect the Gaz to endorse Ryan and Thompson; the paper has made its conservative position known for years. But I was really disappointed that the thrust of both endorsements was basically, 'they are conservative, so that makes them both qualified'. A complete dearth of any factual support (because there is none--I get that). So, I expect the same on Sunday: "We are conservative, so that makes Mitt the best choice." You used to be better than that.

I was on the fence for a long time. Fiscally conservative but still a little 60's idealism left.
But Mitt's latest vote for me or else campaign and the threat that if Obama is reelected that the Republicans in Washington will not cooperate with him and shut down the government in early 2013 forcing a recession really makes me wonder what drug they are on.
Tantamount to Treason - putting their deep pocket corporate friends ahead of the USA's best interests. America went through this with The Other Roosevelt (Teddy) where big interests attempted to buy influence, They ultimately failed when the average Citizen organized against them.
So sorry Mitt, I just do not trust you personally nor what I perceive to be your true supporters and their end game.

“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And it’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

Barack Obama - April 12,2008 in San Francisco, CA

Obama may occasionally let his guard down and accidentally say what he really thinks during the pressure of campaigning or when he forgets the microphone may be on. I'm not going to let my guard down and vote for the man who thinks of Christianity only as useful tool for getting votes and can't wait until his re-election is over so he can jockey for a place in the history books by making arms concessions to Russia's virtual dictator, Vladimir Putin.

I'm hoping to send Obama back to Illinois (the only state in the Union left with NO provision for law-abiding citizens to carry concealed) and he can return to being the the type of community organizer which the city of Chicago so richly deserves, and spend Sundays attending Reverend Wright's sermons.

So vote for Mitt if you want to work or make your children work long hours for low pay and no benefits. Is this the America you want?

Typical fear so unhappy with the truth your only defense, of terrible economic numbers, is more rhetoric. Was there more to your tirade or was that it? Interesting claim “no political policy on Earth could have brought things back”. I tried looking for comments from democrats like you, of when the stimulus program began saying it had no chance of working but I couldn’t find them. If you know where they are please point them out. When you’re done pointing those out please show your comments about the useless stimulus waste, as you say it had no chance of working anyway so why did they spend the money and where were you saying it had no chance so don’t do it. RAF you are truly amazing!! When he took office 7.8% and now its 7.9% and lets not forget what the first 9 moths of his presidency were like, certainly not of his administrations doing. If your hopes rest on one tenth of a percentage point of Unemployment, then you are going to be very disappointed on Tuesday. The majority of the American people remember what it was like in January 2009, no political policy on Earth could have brought things back! Guess what IF(big IF) Romney does win, there certainly wont be 12 million new jobs in the next four years. IF Obama wins we wont become a socialist nation handing our soverignty over to the UN as some Repug Texas Judges have said.

If you support Romney the good news is he agrees with you on every major issue. The bad news is he also disagrees with you on every major issue. What ever issue is most important to you, just google that topic and Romney's name.

If nearly 3 straight years of job growth, the stock market going from 6,000 to 13,000, saving the American auto industry, taking out Bin Ladin, and bringing home troops isn't enough to deserve a second term... I have no idea what does.

And doing all that with literally zero cooperation from republicans.

Janesville needs to look into the future. One hundred years from now the Ryan House will be a museum and the people of Janesville will have to put a new roof on it and there will be a big stink at the city council meeting. Sixteen years from now Ryan will decide to build his presidential library in Janesville's Fourth Ward with land donated by the city. There will be another big stink. To avoid these "stinks" it might be best to just vote for Obama and Biden. Janesville has enough problems with things like no money for parks and the ongoing sidewalk situation.
