About that one-word discussion
This might be a first. It might be the first time one of my blogs led directly to another. It definitely is the first time one of my blogs led directly to a related Gazette editorial.
In case you missed my blog asking readers to describe Janesville in one word, the responses came quickly and furiously. It triggered more than 100 reader comments.
Many had good things to say: Robust. Surprising. Beautiful.
Others, not so surprisingly, were less kind: Dying. Narrow. Pompous.
In The Gazette’s editorial Sunday, we’ll consider some of these thoughts, both positive and negative, and try to put them in perspective.

What's even more confusing is the selection of such a topic considering the history of behavior in this community. I argue this topic does not belong in this newspaper considering the forum rules. Such a topic is only designed to invite attitude and fighting. Janesville has always been a very political and outspoken community which prides itself on that fact. It is only common sense such a topic especially right after a close election will invite juvenile and mean behavior.

Mr. Peck, the title of your article was, “What word would you use to describe Janesville?”
By GREG PECK ( Contact ) Friday, November 9, 2012 - 11:10 a.m.
You then went on to relate “one” word descriptions that you and your wife used to describe where each of you hailed from. (Keep in mind the 1 word premise)
Your next line was written as, “What one word would you use to describe Janesville? Why?”
Uh Oh! Should we have explained our reasons why or stayed with your original premise? I was confused. Sorry for no elaboration.
