What are your Valentine plans?
Maybe the data from the National Retail Federation are skewed toward big expenses and equally large salaries in metropolitan areas and on the U.S. coasts. I doubt whether the average person here in Janesville or Rock County will spend $130 on Valentine’s Day. Some will, yes, but not the average.
I gave my wife, Cheryl, roses yesterday. We have reservations for the Buckhorn Supper Club on Lake Koshkonong. I consider the Buckhorn to be one of the nicest restaurants around.
I was intrigued by our Valentine’s Day features in today’s Gazette. Columnist Anna Marie Lux told the story of Janesville’s Bill and Kathy Brennan and how they kept their loving relationship through a trying 39 months as Kathy maintained the family home here after Bill transferred to a General Motors factory in Texas. The story, I’m sure, could inspire other local couples dealing with the same sort of separations due to auto industry jobs.
Other readers shared their tales of romance, as well. Among them was former longtime Gazette Sports Editor Dave Wedeward. He told how he and his wife, Letha, got engaged on Valentine’s Day 26 years ago—at the Buckhorn Supper Club, no less. I didn’t know that. They celebrated their 25th anniversary last November.
Congratulations, Dave and Letha. Here’s wishing every guy and gal with someone special in their life a happy Valentine’s Day.

My wife and I have been married for 46 years. She has saved all of the valentine cards I have given her and this year she brought out many of them. I think her favorite was one I made while working with some third grade kids. Things that are home made are often the best and eating that paste is always nice.

I'm doing whatever our corporate overlords suggest I should be doing. They suggested I buy stuff. Oh, and some lady on WCLO said I should experience chocolate with all my five senses.
I'm just sayin'...

It is also our anniversary, staying home too. I have all the diamonds I need, so just having a short trip next week. (Have to stay put this week, as daughter and husband are out of the country on their trip, and we do the dog sitting.
