Which flick will win top Oscar?

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Thursday, February 21, 2013 - 9:25 a.m.

The 85th annual Academy Awards ceremony is Sunday. Hoping to win Best Picture are “Amour,” “Argo,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Django Unchained,” “Les Misérables,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

My wife and I have seen three of the films in the local theaters—“Life of Pi,” “Les Misérables” and “Lincoln.”

Of the three, I think “Lincoln” has best odds of winning, and I can’t imagine anyone beating Daniel Day-Lewis, who portrayed President Lincoln, for Best Actor. Still, from what I’ve read, the Best Picture Oscar might go to “Argo” or “Zero Dark Thirty.” I wouldn’t mind catching “Argo” this weekend. I also want to see “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” but when we tried to rent it recently, it apparently was in limited release and our store’s lone copy was out.

Have you seen any of these? Which ones, and do you think they’re legitimate contenders? Which actor, actress and director do you think will win?

The ceremony airs on ABC, which will let you make your picks.

Check out this "story" about Daniel Day-Lewis' background...you'll understand why he is such a stellar, exceptional actor.

I don't get the hype over Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis was great, but the film dragged and was also very cheesy at times. The African-American soldier reciting the Gettysburg Address while the rain fell and the music swelled? Meh.

Argo will win Best Picture, but I'd rather see it go to Silver Linings Playbook. Best film of the year, to me anyway.

I'm predicting Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway will win the acting Oscars, and Steven Spielberg will win Best Director. Enter your office pool now! : )

I've seen all of the films mentioned except "Django Unchained". I agree with the previous poster that "Lincoln" should win. "Argo" is said to be the favorite. It was good, but I preferred "Zero Dark Thirty" and regret the PC nonsense that will probably keep it out.

"Lincoln" should win. "Argo" has a good chance. What will win? "Zero Dark Thirty". Why? Oh come on now, you know why!
