What to make of planned gravel pit
It was only a coincidence that stories about approvals of legislation that could pave the way for a huge iron ore mine in northern Wisconsin and of a gravel pit in the town of Milton both appeared on Page 1A Tuesday.
Both decisions came after many months of debate. Critics vehemently fought both and argued that the diggings would destroy pristine areas and harm environmentally sensitive lands. In both cases, surrounding residents threatened to sue.
Despite those similarities, the two plans have key differences. What are these differences? And what roadblocks remain for the pit to open on peaceful, quiet North Klug Road?
We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Saturday.

"happy to get one of the jobs it would bring."
.
And what jobs would that be? The repubs refused to put the word "jobs" in the bill. Walker isn't about the people....he is for corporations.

I prefer not to comment on the Klug Road matter. However, I am torn about the mine up north. I have empathy for the concerns of the Indians, as I am sure there will be environmental damage. On the other hand, that area of our state is severely underemployed, and I'm sure there are many people up there who would be happy to get one of the jobs it would bring.

there are huge differences in mining sand and iron ore, and what applies to one doesn't necessarily apply to the other...the county & the state still have to approve permits for that land, and from what I've heard, the county won't allow it as the plans involve removing conservation overlays as part of the process...
