State seeks members for new ag-education council

By Ann Marie Ames ( Contact )   May 30, 2008 - 10:13 a.m.

Here's a blurb from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau about a state effort to encourage young people to get involved in farming or agri-business.

I hope they're encouraging young people to be ag reporters, too!!!

AG SECRETARY LOOKING FOR MEMBERS FOR NEW AG EDUCATION-WORKFORCE COUNCIL

Wisconsin Agriculture Secretary Rod Nilsestuen is asking private industry to nominate members for the new 34-member Wisconsin Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council. Its purpose is to ensure the state will have the supply of farmers, agricultural workers and entrepreneurs needed to grow Wisconsin agriculture.

“By drawing on the diverse talents and perspectives of leaders from across the state, we must find ways to attract the best talent with the right preparation to the agricultural sector,” Nilsestuen said.

Responsibilities of the council will range from increasing the hiring and retention of well-qualified employees to promoting education for careers in agriculture, food and natural resources. The council will track educational programs, help coordinate efforts from kindergarten to post-secondary education and beyond, and advocate for agricultural and workforce development education.

For more information or to request a nomination form contact Paul Dietmann, Wisconsin Farm Center, at (608) 224-5038 or paul.dietmann@wisconsin.gov . Nominations must be returned by June 30.

Could you explain how the Farm Subsidy Program works? I think a lot of people out there would really like to know.

That previous post doesn't add anything to this positive news item about efforts to improve our state's $51 billion agriculture industry. I just hope truth1 didn't have a mouth full of food while they were ripping on farmers.

Hopefully the people will be taught to be real farmers instead of so many in "agribusiness" today that are no more than just panderers to gov't subsidy programs.
