My sustainable little yard
My little backyard is kind of a mess. It needs to be raked in the worst way, and we've got branches scattered around.
I suppose everyone's in the same boat this time of year. Well, except for my neighbor, whose yard is perfect.
But, I ignored the mess today and instead happily hung sheets on the line.
Next week, when I'm off on "furcation" I'll do some yard work, including rebuilding my compost bin and adding a second rain barrel.
More on that as weather permits.
I get a ridiculous amount of pleasure from hanging sheets on the line. What could be better?
Well, maybe one thing ... I have chamomile plants coming up from seed already.
(Dances around the yard.)
I planted quite a bit of chamomile last year. It was the one thing I really wanted to get a lot of from my garden, but my yield was light.
Maybe this year it will be better, since the plants got themselves an early start. And I didn't even have to pay for seeds.
Speaking of early, I've got lettuce and spinach seeds in the ground already. And my parsley is coming up nicely. Those plants don't mind the cold. I was picking parlsey at least through October.
Next week, I'll have some pictures of my new and improved compost bin. That's what the cool kids do on spring break - they shovel compost around.
Have a good weekend!

I've found that herbs take at least a second season to really yield. You may have enough to share this year!
Can't garden this year, so will be vicariously gardening with you. If I had to pick a religion, it would be Compost. As in, that's what I want to become when I'm all done.
Thanks for the blog. Totally agree it's what the cool kids do. Anytime. Tell us about your compost methods!

Was able to work in the yard a little the last couple of days. Sure felt good. got my 3 potatoe bags ready. My neighbor has tapped his and mine Maple trees so we are making syrup (21 pints) last year. We have four clothes lines up and the neighbors love using them also. Last fall I took down our 12 x 18 deck so we now have more room for veg/flowers (plus I dont have to stain it.)
