5 Tweets with Maverick Lasker
Welcome to the next installment of "Five Tweets With..." Today we feature Maverick Lasker, who was drafted by the Brewers out of high school in the fifth round of the 2008 amateur draft. Maverick is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher from Phoenix, AZ. Possibly the coolest name in professional baseball and in case you were wondering, Maverick is indeed named after Tom Cruise's character in "Top Gun."
Maverick missed a good portion of his senior year due to a torn biceps injury, but was more than ready when the Brewers came calling. In fact, he signed a six-year year deal on draft day and Maverick reported to the Brewers complex in Maryvale, AZ, just four days later.
Lasker was selected to the 2009 Arizona Fall League all-star team after posting a 5-1 record and a 3.26 ERA. He has spent the majority of his pro career right here in Wisconsin, playing for the class-A Timber Rattlers in the Midwest League.
Maverick has a fastball that tops out in the mid-90s and has a shot to be pitching in Miller Park in a few years. He recently allowed me to pester him for my latest "twitterview." Enjoy…
Me: Have the Brewers given you any indication for their plans for you in 2012? Do you have any personal goals for 2012?
Maverick: No indications as of right now. My goal is to work hard this offseason and put myself in the best position to succeed in 2012.
Me: Other than easy access to glorious cheese, did you like playing in Appleton? What was the best part?
Maverick: The curds were fantastic, but the best part was playin in front of a packed house. Being associated with the Brewers, our fans were very supportive.
Me: Did you give any thought to delaying pro ball and doing the college thing?
Maverick: I was so determined to get my career under way I kind of overlooked the whole college thing. I have no regrets of that decision.
Me: Good for you, man. If you rode your bike to Wrigley Field and it got stolen, would you blame all Cubs fans every where for all of eternity?
Maverick: Haha nah, that’s the price I gotta pay for not lockin' it up.
Me: I locked it up an they cut the lock. :( Anyway ... did you have a favorite team growing up? Favorite player?
Maverick: I grew up watchin the D-backs, enjoyed going to the games. I used to be a hitter too back in the day so I tried to model my swing after A-Rod.
Me: Better movie scene: Tom Cruise on the motorcycle in "Top Gun" or Charlie Sheen on the motorcycle in "Hot Shots"?
Maverick: Nothin' beats Tom in the leather jacket.
Me: Haha. You're biased. :) Thanks for your time, man. I'll tweet u the link when I get it posted! Good luck in '12 an enjoy the offseason!
Maverick: OK thank you.
