LINCOLN was here again!

LINCOLN WAS HERE AGAIN!

Did YOU see ABRAHAM LINCOLN w/Mary (Vernon and Mireya Risty) along with WILLIAM TALLMAN (Jerry Hahn)in JANESVILLE, WI yesterday?! I DID! The Gazette’s front page feature tells you all about it, “Reliving Lincoln: Janesville goes back in time to celebrate historic visit.”

To see MORE Gazette pictures from the historic event click on this link to the Gazette’s Photo Gallery, “Lincoln Visits.”

IF you did NOT get to participate in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s 1859 visit to Janesville, WI, you will be able to see it on JATV in the near future. Watch for the announcement of the scheduling of the video taken at the Celebration Service of Worship at First Congregational United Church of Christ.

HONORING & CELEBRATING the visit of Abraham Lincoln to the Service with the congregation along with William Tallman and his family, Lincoln with his wife, Mary and Tallman were at the service yesterday.

The actual dates of Lincoln’s visit are coming later this week – Lincoln came to Janesville with William Tallman from Beloit on Saturday, October 1, 1859 – that’s this coming Thursday. He stayed overnight and missed his morning train to Chicago, so he went to the Service at First Congregational United Church of Christ on Sunday, October 2, 1859 – that’s this coming Friday. He then stayed overnight and caught his train to Chicago on Monday, October 3, 1859 – that’s this coming Saturday.

LINCOLN’s weekend in Janesville, WI provided two (2) key historic events: (1) Tallman home - the ONLY home in WI in which Lincoln slept and (2)First Congregational United Church of Christ – the ONLY church in WI in which Lincoln shared Christian worship and fellowship.

During this BICENTENNIAL YEAR (1809 – 2009) of ABRAHAM LINCOLN, it was very special to celebrate the SESQUICENTENNIAL (1859 – 2009) anniversary of ABRAHAM Lincoln’s weekend visit in Janesville, WI. THANK YOU Janet and Jim Hay for your vision and commitment to make that vision a reality. Thanks to the First Congregational United Church of Christ for your support of and involvement with the 150th anniversary celebration. Thanks to the Rock County Historical Society – Lincoln-Tallman House – for hosting the First Brigade Band concert. THANKS TO THE PEOPLE of Janesville, WI who participated in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Janesville, WI in 1859.

Here we go…

Typing quirk? Mr. E. did state "out of the gate" that he did "NOT follow or accept the usual & customary Internet protocol that ALL CAPS means one is YELLING/SCREAMING." Seems rather odd for someone who has decided to be a blogger. Guess it is unresonable for people to assume that blogs would conform to "Interent protocol." Think the Gazette would print Mr. E's ramblings in the format he presents them in is blog? They are just as unacceptable to those who have grown accustomed to using the Internet as a news source.
Mr. E might think that "ALL CAPS are needed to provide the modulation of communication which is natural in his articulation when speaking," but we are not listening to him speak. We are simply trying to get through his anti-teacher rants without getting sea-sick from his prose.
Mr. E said, "One must modulate one’s voice for effective oral communication. Why not for effective written communication?" How about because NO ONE CAN STAND TO READ WHAT YOU WRITE WHEN YOU USE CAPS LOCK RANDOMLY - and yes I did want to emphasize that point.
This may have "long been his writing style, even before the Internet when he was writing using a typewriter in the last century." Fortunately, we are not students trapped in his classroom forced to play by his rules.
If he thinks he has something of value to contribute (like telling us all one more time that teachers should voluntarily accept pay cuts), then he might consider communicating in a way that people can understand or at least tolerate.

Matt: I don't know the man, I am merely reacting to his atrocious writing, both in terms of style and content. If you feel he is an asset to the community, that's great, but perhaps public discourse isn't his forte.

Agree or disagree with Mr. Eyster, but to chastise someone not for their subject matter, but from a lifelong typing quirk? I may not always agree with his perspective, but I don't dwell on something that he addressed out of the gate. Mr. Eyster has been an asset to Rock county and its surrounding areas, he deserves better. I wouldn't blame him if he did not post another blog entry. I applaud him and all others who feel strongly about certain issues, and are not afraid to express themselves publicly. To those anonymous posters who are so brave behind their bully punctuation keyboards, I would encourage you to sit down with Mr. Eyster and engage him. He has offered a lot to this community, and it is discouraging to see people overemphasis a typing tic over the content it contains.

Honest Abe's future as our president almost came to naught when he severely aggravated his gastrointestinal problem while consuming vast amounts of pineapple juice at Ye Old Screamin' Meemee's House of Dancing Girls.

battle hymn of the STYLE SHEET
with apologies to Julia Ward HOwe
.
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the writing taught in schools;
They were teaching nouns and verbs and proper punctuation too;
They even had a section on strict capitalizing rules;
That stuff was just for fools.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! That stuff was just for fools.
.
I saw Him give his students back their homework marked in red;
A mistake in proper English brought a glare to scare the dead;
I thought He'd write his sentence proper even on death's bed;
Good grammar's just for tools.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Good grammar's just for tools.
.
I HAVE read a FIERY gospel WRIT in burnished rows of STEEL;
“As ye DEAL with My CONTEMNERS, so with YOU my grace SHALL deal”;
Let THE hero, born of WOMAN, CRUSH the SERPENT with his HEEL,
Since EYSTER'S WRITING on.
glory! GLORY! hallelujah! GLORY! glory! HALLELUJAH!
glory! GLORY! hallelujah! Since EYSTER'S WRITING on.

I would bet honest Abe knew when to use capital letters appropriately. I can't get more than a paragraph through your blog. Thank goodness the Gazzette isn't wasting paper on your confusing and convoluted blogs.

It's hard to believe that J.E. got a college degree. I can't believe he turned in papers that looked like this and received a passing grade.

His articles are now called "Eyster's Eysores". Mispelling is intentional.

It is too painful to even start to read MR. CAPLOCKS articles. Too bad because some of the historical info is probably interesting.
