Citizens of a republic must be educated!

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 29, 2012

Citizens of a republic must be educated! I agree with THOMAS JEFFERSON - "Self-government is not possible unless the citizens are educated sufficiently to enable them to exercise oversight." Do YOU agree with Jefferson? WHY do WE THE PEOPLE of WI not take more seriously the education of the children & youth who are natural born citizens of our republics - US & WI?

US Constitution ratified 224 years ago TODAY

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 21, 2012

US CONSTITUTION RATIFIED 224 years ago TODAY – June 21, 1788 after having been signed and sent to the states for ratification on September 27, 1787. The arduous task of ratifying our US Constitution is very meaningful and informative. We can be thankful for the debate generated by the Federalists and Antifederalists which clarified the values and principles of our republic.

“Dignity, respect central to building bipartisanship”

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 19, 2012

“Dignity, respect central to building bipartisanship” is the title of a valuable practical Op-ed column published by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last Saturday, June 16 by WI State Senators TIM CULLEN and DALE SCHULTZ. I agree with their appeal and recommendations. Do YOU?

Watergate: 40 years later - "Nixon far worse than we thought"

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 18, 2012

Watergate: 40 years later - "Nixon far worse than we thought" - that's the evaluation offered by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in their first joint byline article in 36 years. I was fascinated to learn that June 18, 1972 was the FIRST LEGAL Father's Day in our US since President Richard Nixon had signed the law after Congress passed the bill on April 25, 1972. That FIRST legal Father's Day as the news report of the WATERGATE BREAK-IN hit the news! What do YOU remember about the "WATERGATE SCANDAL"?

Halfway through June 2012 and counting...

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 16, 2012

Halfway through June 2012 and counting... I agree with Phil Hands’ “Hands On Wisconsin” political graphic published in the Wisconsin State Journal again today reflecting on the post-Recall Election environment. I truly believed that the assertion last Sat. - 1 week ago today - "Time for healing to begin" was accurate as articulated by Dr. Kenneth R. Mayer. And then I learned that Ken received his first letter threatening VIOLENCE in response to that Op-ed statement. VERY DISappointed! What's YOUR perspective?

"Time for healing to begin."

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 10, 2012

“Time for healing to begin” is the title of the OpEd piece by my long-time friend and colleague, Dr. Kenneth R. Mayer, a professor in the UW-Madison Department of Political Science, published in the Wisconsin State Journal. I think Ken offers valuable perspectives and outlines how our politicans can encourage healing. That'll start on Tuesday, June 12, I HOPE with the bipartisan "brat summit" hosted by Gov. Walker at the Executive Mansion. New week! I hope WE THE PEOPLE of WI now move "FORWARD"! What do YOU hope for? In fact, Ken and I are co-instructors for the AP US Government & Politics workshop of the Advanced Placement Summer Institute sponsored by the School of Education at the University of Madison the last week of June.

TODAY is the FIRST day of the rest of our lives!

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 08, 2012

TODAY is the FIRST day of the rest of our lives! Today we move to complete this intense week in WI history and politics. I want to share my conviction of a HEALTHY FUTURE for our republics - US & WI - because of the well informed, thoughtful, committed and involved young adults who have had the learning experiences provided by Discovering Democracy at Milton HS and WASHINGTON SEMINAR & Madison Seminar at Parker HS and Craig HS in Janesville. So, today is a NEW day - TODAY is the FIRST day of the rest of our lives! What do YOU think?

Will Walker WALK the talk?

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 07, 2012

Will Walker WALK the talk? As I asserted in my WE THE PEOPLE blog post yesterday, I am going FORWARD with the AUDACITY of HOPE that Scott Walker, who was re-elected Governor of WI in the RECALL ELECTION last Tuesday, will actually WALK the talk. In my opinion, Scott has been strong on TALK-TALK, but very weak on WALK the talk! What do YOU think?

Reflections on our WI RECALL ELECTIONS

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 06, 2012

Reflections on our WI RECALL ELECTIONS - While Scott Walker was re-elected in the WI RECALL ELECTION yesterday, it is important for readers of my WE THE PEOPLE blog, especially those who have been commenting, to pay attention to the fact that WE THE PEOPLE of ROCK COUNTY voted for 56% for Tom Barrett to 43% for Scott Walker. VERY interesting to review the analysis of yesterday’s recall elections. Craig Gilbert has done us all a service in his Wisconsin Voter feature published early today by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “Walker vs. Barrett: The Sequel was a replay of the original.” Check the data analysis. What do YOU think?

TODAY – Recall Election Day!

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 05, 2012

TODAY – Recall Election Day! Early this morning, Scott Bauer with colleagues input from Todd Richmond in Fitchburg, Dinesh Ramde in Racine and Brian Bakst in Janesville filed the Associated Press report which has been published by news sources throughout WI and the USA,“Wisconsin holds recall more than a year in making.” Another title used on this article is, “Wisconsin recall battle finally goes to voters.” FINALLY, TODAY - June 5, 2012!

JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 04, 2012

JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Is there anyone reading my WE THE PEOPLE blog who would DISagree with the assertion that JOBS are the HIGHEST PRIORITY for WE THE PEOPLE of WI as we vote in our WI RECALL ELECTION tomorrow? Please comment! I agree with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s editorial, “After Tuesday, top of the to-do list for governor: jobs.” Do YOU?

“Wisconsin: state of anger, state of action” - Updates

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 03, 2012

“Wisconsin: state of anger, state of action” - Update Note From WISC-TV Today MON. Moving into the first FULL (all 7 days) WEEK of JUNE 2012, WE THE PEOPLE know that Tuesday will be a historic date in WI state history regardless of the outcome of the RECALL ELECTIONS. All of us are able to vote in the RECALL ELECTION for Governor and Lieut. Governor. There are four (4) WI State Senate districts in which there is a RECALL ELECTION for the State Senator. There is general agreement that the RECALL ELECTIONS on Tuesday will be very significant for the FUTURE of WISCONSIN. I voted absentee late last week. Have YOU voted absentee? If not, do YOU plan to vote next Tuesday?

Clinton or Haley? Recall election perspectives.

Posted by JOHN EYSTER on June 02, 2012

Clinton or Haley? Recall election perspectives. I was interested to follow the arrival of what the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel calls, “political stars” for campaign appearances with the candidates for our WI Gubernatorial Recall election next Tuesday, June 5. Very telling, as I see it, to consider the values of these surrogates as reflecting the TRUTH about each of the candidates who recruited them to APPEAR WITH THEM! I would now suggest that the vote next Tuesday is really: CLINTON/BARRETT or HALEY/WALKER? What do YOU think?
